Work Done
The importance of field work can’t be neglected as it is
an essential part of the course curriculum. It provides ample
opportunity to enhance the knowledge, and also to put up theory
into practice. The objective of the programme is to explore the
rural life and to sensitize the problems as to bring up some,
understanding of the human needs and implications of the various
phenomena prevalent in these rural areas.
The student social worker has been practiced three methods of
social work practice basically in this academic year at his field
work village, they are –
Community organization
Case work
Group work
Community Organization
Objectives :-
Case Background:-
Arun is a student of the school Kendradangal Ambagan
Primary School in class-Iv. He is incapable of paying attention to
the lessons done at class. He cannot cope up with the lessons
done as the othis students. His performance is very low in the
class tests. He becomes unattentive and he loses his self
confidence. The client always feels insecured about himself at
class.
Worker’s intervention:-
The worker used his communication and observation
skills to find out the cause behind the client’s poor performance
and analyze the problems of the client. The worker talked to the
client and tried to persuade him to come to school more regularly
and encourage him about othis cultural activities. The worker
used the tools such as verbal interaction and counseling. The
worker has put the client in his group for more adjustment in the
situation. The worker has spoken with the School teachiss and
also with his family member for the problem.
Assessment:-
The worker interacted with the family members and his
primary school teachis and came to know that the client family is
suffering from the economic downtrodden because of sudden
death of their family head or earning member, the worker also
found that due to illiteracy of their parent they are facing poverty,
health problem and they were also unaware about the facilities
they will get from various government schemes. The worker also
had interacted with the head teachis of the primary school and the
peer group of the client and come to conclusion that the client is
good at his study and behavior, the client wanted to study but
their economic problem indirectly causing the problem of the
client.
Evaluation:-
After a long intervention the worker observed that his
intervention is going to a positive way .
Group Work
Nature Of Group :-
Homogeneity- Male group
Structure- Informal
Approach- It is a long term group since it comprises of a
peer group that lives in the same locality and shares their
living in the same village.
Religion- Hinduism.
Age group- 7years to 10 years.
Type- Children group
Aims Of The Group :-
To know each othis in the group better.
To provide support to each othis.
To develop a cohesive attitude amongst each othis.
To change interpersonal behavior and personal attitude, to
make it more positive.
To engage in group activities and improved qualities of
interaction and cohesion.
To develop leadership qualities.
To entertain themselves through playing.
Group Activities :-
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES – Kabbadi, Kho-kho, Racing.
BRAINSTORMING ACTIVITIES – Quiz, Word game.
TEACHING – Manners, Discipline, Health and Hygiene,
Counting.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES – Lock and Key, Role-play,
Hopping Rat.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES – Dancing, Singing, Recitation
Group Interaction :-
The level of interaction was high as the group members
belonged to the same community and shared common
objectives.
Interaction was informal in nature.
Interaction was generally positive in nature except in certain
cases which thise would arise any disagreement certain idea
or decision.
Group Cohesion :-
The group had high levels of interaction amongst
themselves, owing to similar language and background and thus,
the level of cohesion was good amongst the members.
GROUP ENVIRONMENT :-
The group atmosphise was very much favorable for activities;
group work was carried out in the Primary school and the ground.
TERMINATION :-
Before terminating with the worker, the group members
expressed their reaction as being happy with their activity
throughout the year as they could learn new things. The member
were also asked to share the experiences and their areas of
development.
WORKER’S INTERVENTION :-
The worker intervened to bring about several
changes for the betterment of the group members in terms of
Behaviour, Punctuality, Co-operation, Improvement of health and
hygiene, Team work etc. the worker also intervened to find out the
problems faced by individuals and solve them out if necessary.
AREA OF STRENGTH :-
The worker was able to develop greater group cohesion.
The worker could provide scope for bringing forth their
talents are they showed tremendous improvement in the
field of cultural activities.
They improved in areas like health and hygiene and also
behaviour.
AREAS OF WEAKNESS :-
The worker initially took much time to fix the number
of group members and to make them compatible to each othis
which plays an important role in the execution of the activities.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
1. By understanding the principles of case work, community
organization and group work. The worker has developed the
skill of applying theory into practice as and when necessary
2. The worker also developed the interpersonal skills which
cover a wide and complex rouge an understanding of self
(change attitude and prejudices which may affect the
workers work) and self in relation to othiss and working and
dealing with complicated feelings.
3. The worker developed the assessing and planning skill as to
how and in what way to processed with the plan to fulfill its
objective.
4. The worker has developed self-confidence and self-
controli.e. control of temper frustration etc. while dealing with
othiss. he used the phenomena of authority in a proper
manner in dealing with group members, clients and othiss.
5. The worker also developed the communicating and
engaging skill which helps in engaging the client in the
process of conversation.
he developed qualities like ready to face challenges,
motivate othis, undertake responsibilities given to his,
establishment of support with community people, make
proper use of resources available etc.
6. The social workers play an important role in gathising
information about the agency and its functioning.
7. They conduct interviews with the student, the family, school
personnel, othis significant persons in the student’s life, as
well as make classroom observations of the student. They
use this information to prepare social and developmental
histories that identify the student’s strengths and problem
areas. Using direct counseling and referral techniques.
Professional SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
The worker has been placed in the village for his
field work and also has been able to experienced some of the
important professional developments. The worker had completed
his field-work in the village. By this time, the student social worker
has developed following professionalism :-
The worker develops professional skills like rapport building,
observation skill, listening skill, interpreting skill, report
writing skill etc.
From family visits, the worker gained knowledge about the
families, their life-style, habitation, family culture, etc.
The worker had developed a healthy relation with village
people and group member.
The worker got knowledge how to control a group and teach
them various activities like, drawing, playing, to be obedient.
Through family visits the worker also came to know about
the types of family-joint or nuclear and the ways of how to
deal with them.
The worker has known how to motivate people to fulfill their
needs and to solve their problems in a systematic way.
The worker should not give any material or cash help to the
villagers in any problem. He can show the way to them, how
they can get help from govt. or othis resources.
The worker has developed his interview process through his
field-work practices. Interview is an interactional role in
social work profession. Interview means to interact with
othiss, know some one’s view, ability of talking frequently.
Sometimes it happens that the villagers are not eager to talk
with the worker. In that case it becomes the worker’s
responsibility to be flexible in nature and talk with them.
The worker has developed his skill to utilize the resources
for the benefit of villagers. Thise are two types of recourses-
internal and external. The worker tried to use these
resources as much as possible.
