Visa Interview Question and Answers

1) Why are you going to USA ?

Ans - I am planning to pursue my graduate program in Computer Science from Arizona
state University.
2) Tell me something about yourself.?
Ans- My self Darshil Shah and I am from Ahmedabad. My father is retired govt officer
and my mother is home maker. I have completed my bachelor in IT from Nirma University
and then I worked in Tata consultancy Service for almost 18 months and currently I am
working as a Software Consultant in Inexture Solution .
3) Why do you particularly want to study at this university?
Ans- :- ASU is considered as one of the top research universities of US especially in the
field of Computer Science. . I like the verities of courses offered in each area like Data
Mining , Data Visualization , Distributed Database System, Foundation of Algorithms etc.
Moreover , they have categorized all courses into three categories. Application , System
and Foundation and every student has to complete at least one course from each
category. Also , if students want to take undergrad courses then ASU also offers 400 level
classes. This kind of flexibility is more or less absent in many other universities. So I think
, I would get really good exposure from this university.
4) Why Masters in this majors ?
Ans- I have done my bachelor in the same field which has built foundation in technology
development and research . Moreover, I have good experience to work with two
different firms in same field. So, Master’s program would definitely help me out to boost
my career opportunities and it will enhance my expertise in this area.
5) Why don’t you study in India?
Ans- US grad schools are way ahead in terms of research in fields like computer science
and soft engineering compared to other universities in India. They also have advanced
structure of courses which are more or less absent in Indian Universities. Moreover,
they stress on practical knowledge and not just book learning. If I would get a degree
from US then that would be globally recognized as the academic standards are very good.
6) What do you know about University?
Ans:- ASU Tempe is situated in downtown Tempe ,which is about eight miles east of
Phoenix. The campus is surrounded by approx. 660 acres in size. According to US news ,
ASU has positioned No.1 in terms of Innovation since last decade. Moreover , all the
professors are well qualified and possess P.h.d degree from well-known university .In
addition to that , ASU provides abundant resources for students like , ASU counselling
service, ASU health Service , ASU Police , ASU wellness and many more.

7) How did you come to know about your university?

Ans:- Sir , I have done research to identify good universities for which my research
interest matches . Many of my friends have also attended the same grad school , so they
also suggested me to have a look for this university.

Ans – I have applied to five universities.

11) Did anybody help you in the research of theses Universities?
Ans:- Yes , I have joined Renaissance consultancy located in Ahmedabad . They have
suggested me number of universities . I have done a lot research to identify the reputed
university for which my research interests matches , course structure and details about
the professor like qualification , research area they work on , and rating of professor.
12) How many i-20’s you got?
Ans:- I got two i20s.One from ASU and another from SJSU.
13) How many rejections do you have?
Ans:- I have applied to five universities and I got offer letter from four of the universities.
As of now I don’t get any update regarding my admission from Iowa State University.
14) Why not any other university?
Ans:- ASU is considered as one of the top research universities of US especially in the field
of Computer Science. I like the verities of courses offered in each area like Data Mining ,
Data Visualization , Distributed Database System, Foundation of Algorithms etc.

15) Where is university located? Can you give exact address?

Ans:- Arizona State University is located in Tempe downtown , which is about eight miles

16) Do you want to do part time job there?
Ans:- I have no intention to work on either on campus or off campus. If I would get an
opportunity to work as TA or GA with some professor on my interested research area
then I would like to work 20 hours per week .

17) Why have you not applied to ______ University even though you have sent your gre
score?
Ans:- While I took my GRE , I was not aware about universities that were best suited for
my research area. Hence I chose good colleges which I knew at that time.
Sunny Buffalo :- I have done research about this university and I came to know few points
which deviates my mind not to go for this university. There are extremely few and
selective courses offered in Computer Science . Moreover , there is lack of industry nearby
Buffalo. So it might affect me to get industrial experience in terms of internship.
Northeastern University - Northeastern University is private grad school and quite
expensive.

18) What is there in your course curriculum which you liked the most?
Ans:- In order to obtain master degree in Computer Science , we have to complete 30
credit hours courses . I like the verities of courses offered in each area. Moreover , they
have categorized all courses into three categories. Application , System and Foundation
and every student has to complete at least one course from each category. Also , if
students want to take undergrad courses then ASU also offers 400 level classes. This kind
of flexibility I have never seen in any other university. So I think , I would get really good
exposure from this university.
19) Which is your favorite subject?
Ans:- My favorite subject is DS and Algorithms.
20) Why do you plan to do Masters/Bachelors?
Ans:- refere question no 4.
21) How this degree will help you in future?
Ans:- A Master degree from US is globally recognized ,as academic standards are very
good. If I would get master degree from ASU , then it will definitely help me out when I
come back to India and I seek for jobs , basically it will boost my career opportunities and
ASU is considered as one of the top notch universities in research , it will enhance my
expertise in this area.
22) What are your future plans?
Ans:- Sir , after completing my studies , I want to come back to India and settle down in
Bangalore or Hyderabad as ,abundant number of opportunities are available over there.
And probably after getting good industrial exposure, I would like to start my own firm.
23) Why would you come back if you have job opportunities in USA?
Ans:- Sir , my parents are aged and suffering from health issues. So I would definitely
come back for them.
24) Who is going to sponsor you?
Ans:- My father is going to sponsor me.
25) Do you have a local US sponsor?
Ans:- No.
26) What do your parents do?
Ans:- My father is retired govt officer. He has served as deputy engineer in GIDC (Gujarat
Industry and Development Corporation). My mother is home- maker.
27) What is a full form visa?
Ans:- Visitors International Stay Admission.
28) What is i20?
Ans:- Every International Student who wants to study in USA , must possess i20 form
which certifies the eligibility for non immigrant as a Student status for particular period of
time.

29) What is SEVIS?

Ans:- SEVIS stands for Student and Exchange Visitor Information System. It is a
nationwide, Internet-based system that the U.S. government uses to maintain accurate
and current information of non-immigrant students.
30) What is the annual fee of the university where you want to go?
Ans:- it is about 50,000 $ including Living expenses and Tuition fees.
31) Mention the course duration.
Ans:- My course will last from 13Jan 2020 to 12 Jan 2023
32) How many brother and sisters do you have?
Ans:- I have one elder brother. He is working as an System Engineer in Apple Inc,
Cupertino. He stays in 2650 keystone Avenue ,Apt #124, Santa Clara , California,95051.

Ans:- 13.8 L per annum
34) What is the total amount of fund with your parents?
Ans:- Mam , my parents have approx. 1.25 crore including both movable and immovable
property and approx. 1.06crore of liquidity amount.
35) Is it worth spending this much money for this degree?
Ans:- Yes , I think this is the great investment , I am doing for rest of my life. A Master
degree from US is globally recognized ,as academic standards are very good. If I would get
master degree from ASU , then it will definitely help me out when I come back to India
and I seek for jobs , basically it will boost my career opportunities and ASU is considered
as one of the top notch universities in research , it will enhance my expertise in this area.
36) What really makes you come back to India?
Ans: - Sir , my parents are aged and suffering from health issues. So I would definitely
come back to India
37) Give me three reasons why i should grant you visa.
Ans:- I have i20 letter issued by ASU which indicates that ASU has grant me admission in
my desired course. Secondly , I have adequate amount of funds in my bank and I have
attached the same. Moreover , After obtaining a Master degree , I would be coming back
to India which shows that I have no intention to stay in US and work.

38) What if I don’t give you visa.

Ans:- Its my long wish to study in U.S but I still respect the decision of embassy and I will
try my next application and prepare necessary documents required for my second chance.
39) Will you work while studying?
Ans:- I have no intention to work on either on campus or off campus. If I would get an

40) What about opt (optional practical training) after the completion of academic
program.
Ans:- No sir.
41) Where did you do your internship during bachelors?
Ans:- I did my internship in Teksum Mycrosis pvt limited in Ahmedabad.
42) How do you plan to repay all the money spent by you on this course?
Ans:- After completing my study , when I will come back to India , then master degree
from ASU will definitely help me out to seek for high paid salary jobs , basically it will
boost my career opportunities. So, I am pretty much sure that , I will be working for good
company which pays me high salary.
43) Tell me about the subject studied in your bachelor degree.
Ans:- In Nirma University , we have common subject for one year for all the branches.
From second year onwards , I have studied , DS, algorithm ,programming lang , THOC
Etc.;p`
44) In case of campus selections, if you’re shortlisted then what will you do?
Ans:- Sir , I am going to US to earn degree , not money and my intention is very clear.
45) Will you come back during summer breaks to your family?
Ans:- Yes sir , I will be coming back in vacations to meet my family and friends.
46) Did you speak or communicated with any faculty related to your course.
Ans:- Yes sir , I tried to communicate with Jaya Krishnamurthy for selection of courses.
She is my Academic Adviser.
47) Will you stay off campus or on campus?
Ans:- I will be staying off campus. Currently I am searching for my accommodation . We
have explored few apartments near by University like 1255 , Dorsey etc.
