Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title:
“Zero to One Hundred Real Quick”
Objectives:
Students will be able to recite the numbers one through one hundred
Students will be able to list numbers after any given starting number between one and one
hundred.
State Standards:

1. K.NS.2: Count forward by ones beginning from any number less than 100.

Context: I am teaching this lesson because it is essential for students to be able to count fluidly.
This is mainly because 1 through 100 will be used frequently during future beginners’ math such
as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Before this lesson students will be able to
count to one hundred by tens. The goal for this lesson is to learn the numbers between the
increments of ten. The following lesson teaches students that a number can represent objects
written as a numeral. In order to prepare students for the next lesson topic they will be
introduced to the concept that each value can represent amount.
Data: Students be grouped in this lesson based on their scores from the previous sessions exit
tickets. Low scores, average scores, and high scores will be the basis of the groups. For future
groupings and teaching data will be collected in this lesson by a cumulative exit ticket during the
wrap up/ review portion of this activity.
Materials: Ipad, Pinkfong app, Kahoot, Class dojo, Paper, Worksheet, bucket, Pencils, White
boards, Dry erase markers, and a timer.
Procedures:
Introduction (8minutes):
Students will enter the room and place their belongings at their assigned cubby. I will direct them
to the carpet area for further instruction. One they are all seated I will begin explaining that we
are learning to count numbers one through one hundred. I will explain that the students will stay
in these groups, rotate together, and rotate at the end of the timer sound. After that I will list of
the groups and explain where each group will start based on the activity. I will explain to my
students that at each table they will see a sign that is named based on the activity, iPad, and their
material needed to complete the activity. I will tell the students that these materials will stay at
each station and will not move with each person as they rotate. I will have them go ahead and
move to the table area in their groups. I will set the timer to 15 minutes and will let them begin.
Teacher Directed (15 minutes):
Background Information: For this teacher directed portion I will be helping a group of students
count forward at a random number between 1-100. This is to teach them Standard K.NS.2.
Detailed Steps: Once students are seated around the table, I will pass out white boards and dry
erase markers. I will begin instructing them on what we are going to do. I will call on one of the
students in this group and write out a number on my white board and show it to them. For
example, “21”. This student will then write out the next five numbers following “21” on their
board and flip it around and show it to me. For example, “22,23,24,25,26”. The other students
will also write it on their boards they will just not show me. If they have gotten them all right, I
will do the same thing to the next student until they have all been called on. If they have gotten it
wrong, I will allow the remaining students to flip their board around and show me their answers.
Collaborative (15 minutes):

Background Information: For this collaborative portion I will be using a worksheet and a game
for the students to play ( https://www.pinterest.com/pin/582019951820203588/). This will target their
concept skills to fill in the missing numbers on the sheet.

Detailed Steps: Once the students are seated at the table, they will find a worksheet (Different
numbers will be missing on each worksheet), game chips, and a bucket of small papers with the
numbers 1 -100 written on them. Each student will fill out their missing numbers on the work
sheet. After they are done, they will pick someone in the group to call out numbers (they will
also be able to play). Once they have selected a person, they will call out a number by picking
them one at a time out of the bucket for example, say “4” everyone will cover up the number 4 if
they had to write it in. If 4 was not one of their original missing numbers, they will not place a
chip on their board. They will continue doing this until someone gets Bingo. For our purpose’s
bingo will be when they have three missing numbers in a row or Colum (they will not be
consecutive numbers).
Independent Digital (15minutes):
Background information: For the independent learning portion students will be Playing pink
Fong’s app Numbers Zoo. Their task is to complete the second Game Turtles and Snails and to
collect all the badges. This exercise uses turtles, birds, and snails to show students how to write
the letters and how to understand amount. This will be a combination of mastering writing the
numbers 1-100 and an introduction to the next lesson. To receive all the badges students must
complete the exercise with numbers 1-100 will all of them correct.
Detailed Steps: Once seated at their table the students will each have an ipad. They are
instructed to read the directions for this lesson first. “Open the device. On your home screen you
will see PinkFong counting Zoo. Open this app. It will ask you your name. Type in your first
name and press go. On the home screen you will click the lake with the turtles and snails on it.
This is located on the left side of the zoo trail. Once you have clicked on this it will bring you
straight to the game. You will first be shown a blue snail. Click the snail to hear the sound
“One”. Once you have clicked the snail it will direct you to move in a downwards motion to
trace the number one. It will move on the next number two if you got it right and stay on One if
you got it wrong. The number two will then have two snails and you will follow the same
instruction’s that you did for one. You must do this up until 100 to collect all your badges. Once
you have completed this game it will show you your progress, name, and all the badges you have
collected. To save this hold down your home button and your volume down button at the same
time. It will take a picture and save it to your camera roll. To exit this activity, press the Door
icon on the bottom right hand corner of your screen. This will let the next person log in with a
different name. Please leave the ipad at this station.”
Closure (10minutes):
To close out this lesson we will be doing an exit ticket. The student will bring their iPads to the
carpet area. I will briefly go over what we learned in each group. Then I will have the students
click on their class dojo app home page and click the link for the kahoot. We will play kahoot as
our exit ticket. Data will be briefly collected on each question based how many students got the
answer right or wrong on the question. This will help me know what I need to review to ensure
they are prepared to learn the next topic.
Rationale:
(Multimedia 1=Pink Fong Numbers zoo): Pink Fong is a very well-known company used
by parents for at home learning methods streamed via video or games. This would be a
great integration into the classroom since some students may be familiar with Pink Fong.
It supports the standards and objectives because the main goal of the app is to help you
learn how to count up to one hundred. This application uses counting numbers and
animals to help students stay engaged while learning. This is application is also a great
tool to use to accommodate to other language learners because the app has 5 different
language modes. I believe this app to be of high-quality because it uses prizes and badges
to motivate players to continue, what you learn in the game aligns to the standard,
presentation ad design are well executed, it is standard compliant, you are able to restart
the game at any time, this game is based on interaction from the student.

(Multimedia 2=Kahoot) I chose this website to be my exit ticket. I chose this multimedia
because it is an easy was to collect data and is customizable. It supports student learning
because I can make my own game based on the particular standard we are learning. This
game is centered around student interaction, motivates students by giving points and
having a top five list, it is also really competitive depending on the grade level you are
using it to teach, and this question aligns with the standard because you make your own
questions. For these reasons I believe this app is high quality. Since this multimedia’s
customizable you can make certain accommodations based on the students in your class.
It is also very easy to understand so students with learning disabilities will be able to
engage in the gam the teacher would just have to keep in mind the questioning portion.
