GUI Solution:
1. Starting:
Click → start → ANSYS → ANSYS product launcher
Launch – ANSYS Multiphysics
File management → browse the directory for saving and retrieving the files.
Click → run
3. Title:
Utility menu → File → Change title → “Axi-symmetric Plate” → ok.
Utility menu → plot → replot
4. Elements:
Main menu → Preprocessor → element type → add → add → thermal → Quad 8node
(PLANE77) → ok

5. Material Properties:
Main menu → Preprocessor → material properties → material models → material model 1
→ thermal → conductivity → isotropic → enter KXX = 168 → ok
6. Modeling:
(a) Main menu → Preprocessor → Modeling → create → keypoints → in active CS →
enter→ KP number as 1 and its location (x,y,z values) → apply & continue for other
KPs → ok
k1 → 0,0 ; k2 → 0,0.05 ; k3 → 0.1,0.05 ; k4 → 0.1,0
Note: Ensure that there is no duplicate of KP number is entered
(b) Utility menu → plot ctrls→ numbering → tick KP numbers → ok.
(c) Utility menu → plot → keypoints
(d) Main menu → Preprocessor → meshing → mesh attributes → default attributes → select
element 1 ; material 1 ; real const 1 → ok
(e) Main menu → Preprocessor → Modeling → create → lines → lines → straight lines →
select by cursor KP 1 & 2, 2 & 3, 3 & 4, 4 & 1 → ok
(f) Main menu → Preprocessor → Modeling → create → area → arbitrary → by lines →
select by cursor all the lines → ok
(g) Meshing → size cntrl → manual size → global → size → enter NDIV as 20 → ok
(h) Meshing → mesh tool → mesh → area → pick all → ok
7. Boundary Conditions:
(a) Utility menu → select → everything
(b) Utility menu → plot → elements
(c) Utility menu → select → nodes → by location → select x coord → enter min,max as
0.1 → apply → ok
(d) Utility menu → plot → nodes
(e) Main menu → solution → define loads → apply → thermal → temperature → on nodes
→ pick all → enter TEMP = 80 → ok
(f) Utility menu → select → everything
(g) Utility menu → plot → lines
(h) Main menu → solution → define loads → apply → thermal → convection → on lines
→ select top horizontal line → ok → enter h = 50 & temp = 20 → ok
(i) Utility menu → select → lines → by num/pick → select left vertical and bottom
horizontal lines → ok
(j) Utility menu → plot → lines
(k) Type in command prompt → dl,all, ,symm
8. Solution:
Main menu → Solution → solve → current LS.

9. Post Processing:
Gen. post processor → plot results → nodal solu → DOF solu → temperature → OK (to
plot temperature distribution)
