1. Categories
This document offers several methods to isolate defects or problems according to the symptoms
observed. We can classify the symptoms to several categories. The categories are very helpful
for you to find problems in different systems and it’s a general tool, not only used in the system
described in this document.
For different categories, we have different methods to solve problems. Most of the methods are
commonly used in all Mindray ultrasound systems but there might be slight differences when
you use them on different systems.
2. Boot up related
Symptoms
a. When the power switch is on, the system has no response.
b. The system stops at Mindray boot logo and cannot go into 2D mode.

Reason of defect
During the initialization of the system, the power supply system is the first part. When PFC is working,
it’ll provide output to +5V and -5V boards simultaneously. If -5V board is defective, the system can still
enter 2D mode.
After the power supply initialization, the system will read probe data(POD) from hard disk. If this
operation failed, the system might not work.

3. Black screen
Symptoms
The system is working (This is the biggest difference between black screen problem and boot related
problem), but there is nothing displayed on the screen. For DC-6, there is a sentence displayed “Signal
Cable Disconnected”.

Reason of defect
The LED indicator of monitor shows the working status of monitor. If it’s green, it means both the power
supply to the monitor and the synchronous signal from DSP board is all right. If it’s yellow it means the
power supply is all right but the synchronous signal is missing. If it’s dark, it means the power supply to
the monitor is missing.
Thus, when we check the problem, we’ll firstly observe the status of monitor LED indicator which is in
the front of the monitor.
Further more, we can use external video devices to verify the working status of DSP board and I/O box.
However, this method is limited because the different video outputs of system use different video encoder
chips. There might be possible that the chip who encode for monitor is defective but the chip who encode
for video output is all right. Up to now, we didn’t see a single case of this happened.
If you don’t have video printer, you can also use monitor to test it.

4. Function lost
Symptoms
a. Certain function is not working.
b. For DC-6, currently we found two kinds of problems happened.
Check route
Please relate the functions with certain parts:
Transducer board: switch and recognize ID.
Transmission board: generate transmit pulses
Amplifier board: Amplify received echoes
Beamformer board: A/D, receive focus, signal processing
DSP: image processing. CPU system. System software.
I/O Box: I/O connection, hard disk connection.
Hard disk: iStation system and system data.
Reason of defect
Let’s see some cases of function lost:
1. Cannot use search function to find patient, cannot save or load patient data.
The iStation is supplemented in DSP board and hard disk. Every errors happen in iStation functions are
related to these two parts.
2. PW function doesn’t work.
According to the functions of the boards, before the Beamformer board, the PW signal is mixed with B/W
and Color so there should be no problem in transducer board and amplifier board. The two board possible
is Beamformer and DSP board. Please do a self test to find the problem.
3. Cannot read hard disk.
Hard disk is connected to the DSP board via I/O connection board. After check the CDRW reading and
writing( it doesn’t work either), we can know that the problem is in I/O connection board or DSP board.
These are the public path of the signal flow. After checking the I/O connection board, we can find a
burned chip in I/O connection board, thus replacing this board solved the problem.
5. Keyboard related
Symptoms
a. Certain keys don’t work.
b. All the keys don’t work.

Reason of defect
The main panel board is the center of the keyboard system. If there is any key pressed but not restored to
original position, the key will block all other keys on main panel board. Meanwhile, the buzzer on main
panel will generate sound to indicate that some problem happened.
In theory, if the main panel keyboard silicon keys are defective, there might be one or two keys don’t
work. However, up to now, we haven’t seen such cases.

6. Lock up
Symptoms
a. The system froze after certain operation
b. The system froze randomly.
c. It’s pretty hard to distinguish this problem with key stuck problem. If there is one key stuck, other
keys will not respond and the customer may think that the system is lock up or crash. However, if the
system is not in freeze status, you can still hear the sound from transducer and you can still saw the
image changing with the probe operation. If you see this problem, it’s not lock up.

Reason of defect
The iStation database is located in hard disk c and d drive. If you meet the problem, you can rename
d:\patientdata and c:\patientdata_bak to any random names. After that, please reboot the system, and the
system will generate new database by itself. If you can enter iStation now, it means the old database is
damaged. What you can do is back up them to cdrom or usb disk and delete them from hard disk.
If the system software is lower than 01.02.00.20114, especially lower than 01.01.00.19087, please
upgrade it to newer version. For the upgrade guide and upgrade software, please request from Mindray
International Service Department. For the old software, it’s not very stable and will lockup due to several
bugs.

7. Mechanical problem
Symptoms
Some parts or covers are damaged during transportation.
Check route
First thing first, please check if you paid for the insurance before shipping. Please contact the insurance
company.
Please check the part number of the damaged part. If you have problem finding part numbers in Service
Manual, please send some photos to Mindray service department.
Reason of defect
Unexpected incident happened during shipping.

8. Probe related
Symptoms
a. Probes cannot be recognized.
b. Probe matching layer has air bubble.
Check route
a. Probes cannot be recognized. Please check the probe data on hard disk. It’s in C:\POD folder. If the
hard disk cannot be opened, you need to change hard disk.
b. Probe matching layer has air bubble. This will generate a big dark area in image. Please change probe
directly.
Reason of defect
Basically, we need POD data on hard disk to use each transducer. If the files are not available, the system
cannot recognize the transducer.
In fact, the transducer board can also cause transducer recognition problem. However, up to now, we
haven’t found such cases.

In one of the hard disk cases, in fact the hard disk is all right. However, the power supply can’t supply
+12V DC voltage so the hard disk doesn’t work. After changing -5V board, it works normally.
9. Image Related
Symptoms
a. No image area. The image area is totally black. After turn the B mode gain to 100dB and the TGC
sliders to the right end, you can find an image like following photo.
c. Color abnormal. There are vertical color lines observed in color sample volume.
d. White line.
e. Monitor colorized. The whole display becomes purple, red, green, yellow etc.
f. P2P transducer. Far field image is in blocks.

a. No image area.
Reason of defect
a. No image area means there are no echo signals received. A big possible reason is there is no
transmission signal. We need to distinguish the problem between PHV voltage and transmission board.
However, there are two exception issues happened before. In one case, the PHV board is ok but the power
output monitoring board shortcut the PHV voltages. In the other case, the transmission board is all right
but the BF board is defective. These two cases are pretty rare and we didn’t include them in the check
route.
c.d. Color abnormal and white line. If you find some interference in color sample volume, generally it’s
caused by transmission board. With the developing of this problem, it’ll become white line in 2D mode,
and finally there will be no image area at all(problem a).
e. Monitor colorized. Generally such problems can be fixed by checking connections outside or inside
monitor. If you failed, just replace the CRT module.
f. 2P2 transducer. This transducer should be used in system software higher or equal to V02.01.00.23414.
If it’s used in V01.02.00.20114, there will be many blocks in far field image.
