COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this class you will learn the necessities needed to expertly craft a basket while underwater in a
scuba suit. This includes the different resources and tools needed to craft your basket and tools
needed to safely be underwater for prolonged periods of time.

• Basket Weaving 101: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide for Getting Started Basket
Weaving Techniques, Secrets and Tips. By Kay Phelps
• Scuba Diving and Snorkeling for Dummies? By John Newman
COURSE OBJECTIVES
• Learn how to scuba dive properly and safely
• Weave an entire basket
• Weave an entire basket underwater in a scuba suit

INSTRUCTOR’S EXPECTATIONS
No phones or any other electronic devices with them while in the pool. Must follow all rules by
the Rec center and lifeguards.
GRADING PROCEDURE / ASSIGNMENTS / EXAMS / FINAL EXAM
Grading Scale – A = 100-90%; B = 89-80%; C = 79-70%; D = 69-60%; E = 59-0%
Assignments - There will be a short quiz every other week where I will ask you to show me one of
the techniques we went over that week. There are 5 quizzes each quiz being worth 6 points for a
total of 30%
Homework - There won’t be any homework for this class
Midterm- Midterm over the techniques we have gone over
Final Assignment – Create a large basket underwater during the last 2 weeks of class using
several of the techniques we have learned. 20%
Attendance – 30%

ATTENDANCE POLICY
If a student has more than 3 unexcused absents, they will receive 5 percent off for each
following unexcused absents.
Excused absences include religious holidays, sickness with doctor’s note, family emergencies,
and jury duty. If you have any other reasons for missing class, we can discuss whether it is
excused or not over email.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
Illegal: firearms or any other weapons, alcohol, illegal drugs, and drug related items
Food, drinks other than water, tobacco products, and spit-cups are not permitted. Mobile
devices must be placed on “silent” and stowed. Behavior that disrupt the learning environment
is strictly forbidden.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
The University policy regarding academic dishonesty is stated in the Undergraduate Catalog. It
allows faculty members to impose a sanction on students determined to be guilty of plagiarism
(taking the ideas or written words of another without appropriate citation). The sanction may
include failure of a particular assignment or exam, failure of a particular class, or any other
appropriate disciplinary action. Charges of plagiarism must be reported to the appropriate
department chair and college dean, and to the MSU Dean of Students. Further policy
