Drilling fluids
One of the most important factors that influence Calculation of necessary flush capacity
drilling performance is the drilling fluid. Drilling

• remove drill cuttings from the drill hole and Formula: Q = v x A
clean the drill bit. Q = m2/sec
• cool the drill bit v = m/sec
• lubricate the drill bit and the drill string A = m2
• stabilize and seal the walls of the drill hole. The drill fluid capacity is calculated as the
velocity of the fluid (or the up-hole velocity)

best fluid. In difficult geological formations Formula in short for daily use: Q = v x k x (D2-d2)

flushing capacity is the up-hole velocity required k = constant = 0,00047
in order to transport the cuttings. The necessary D = Drill bit size in mm
up-hole velocity should be substantially greater d = Drill string diameter in mm
than the sedimentation velocity of the cuttings.

characteristics of the flush fluid. The normally
recommended flushing velocity is 40 cm/sec for Q = 40 x 0,00047 x (762 - 502) = 62 l/min
core drilling; and 50 cm/sec for rotary drilling. Required flushpump capacity = 62 l/min

Trido-pumps utilize durable, high quality
materials such as hardened stainless steels and
ceramics to minimize corrosion and wear of
critical components.
TRIDO® 45 has disc valves whereas TRIDO® 80,
140 have standard ball valves and TRIDO® 220
has spring loaded ball valves.
Servicing Trido is simple even in the field.

TRIDO® 45
TRIDO® 45 has a theoretical maximum
flushing capacity of 45 l/min and a
maximum flushing pressure of up to 50 bar.
The TRIDO® 45 is intended for clean water use only.
The disc valves gives a higher flow than ball-type
valves. TRIDO® 45 flush pump is designed to meet
the needs for a compact, inexpensive and light
weight flush pump. The carrying handles that make
the pump entirely portable also serve as part of the
protective frame. Standard variants of the flush
pump are powered by either an air, electric,
hydraulic or petrol prime mover. The pump housing
is made from aluminium, which makes the pump
far lighter than if it were of cast iron. All wear
surfaces are hard-chromeplated to ensure long life
and maximum durability.

TRIDO® 80 is designed for both mud and water
flushing.
The ball valves and valve seats are made of
stainless steel.
The cylinder linings are of the steel backed ceramic
type and are extremely wear resistant.
The distribution block is prepared for mounting of

Accessories and optionals
The following products are available as complete kits.
A complete kit contains the selected product and all the
necessary items for mounting it.
Accumulator
Flow meter
Pressure hose
Suction hose
Strainer
Accumulator
The accumulator is fitted on the pressure line.
The accumulator reduces pulsation and creates a more steady
flow. Reduced pulsation will increase the service life of the
pumping equipment. The accumulator can be fitted on any of
the TRIDO® pumps.

Adjustable constant flow valve
The adjustable steady-flow valve is an excellent, inexpensive
alternative to have a gear box installed between the prime
mover and the pump.
It is intended mainly for pumps driven by a prime mover with
fixed rotation (electric motor) or whose rotation can be varied
only by steps (electric motor and gear box).
The adjustable steady flow valve, when mounted on the
pressure line, can reduce the flow by anywhere between 0 and
40 litres/minute and maintain that flow irrespective of the
waterflow pressure. As an example, the flow of a TRIDO®
140EG which delivers 75 litres/minute in third gear, can be
adjusted steplessly between 75 and 35 l/min and maintained
steady at the selected rate.
In a regular by-pass system with a simple throttle or shut-off
valve the water flow varies inversely to the counter pressure in Adjustable steady flow valve
the drill hole and thus cannot be controlled. The counter
pressure can become so high that most of the water returns
through the by-pass line. This can cause the bit to be burnt
and the drillstring to get stuck in the hole.

Flow meter
It is always recommended and sometimes even necessary to
be able to measure the flush water flow (and thus making sure
the bit is being flushed). The flow meter is best fitted in
combination with an accumulator thus reducing the chance of
a wrong reading caused by pulsation.
