PURPOSE: To rebuild a Dell Precision 690 in the field

SCOPE: All Dell Precision 690 DX Clients, Standalones, Managers and Multimodality systems

REASON: Dell 690 systems have been loosing Physical Disks. The only solution is to rebuild them.

Note: Field Flash 104 can solve RAID corruption problems, and should be applied before this document.
FF104 requires five to ten minutes and can fix issues with the RAID configuration in Dell 690 Systems.

EFFECTIVITY: Immediate .

TIME TO APPLY: Approximately 2 hours.

PROCEDURE:
Instructions for Rebuilding a Securview 690 System in the field

1.0 Modify BIOS Settings


1.1 Connect the keyboard and mouse, per Figure 1 in Appendix A, and a VGA monitor.
1.2 Power up the computer, and press “F2” to enter BIOS (Note – you may need to press F2 several
times before the system recognizes it)
1.3 Once in the BIOS move cursor to highlight “System” and press Enter
1.4 Select Boot Sequence and press Enter
1.5 Select Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive and press the u key to move this up to the second
position.
1.6 Select PERC 5/i Adapter and press the u key to move this up to the third position. Press the Enter
key to save changes.
1.7 When finished the boot sequence should be:
• Onboard or USB Floppy Drive
• Onboard or USB CD-Rom Drive
• PERC 5/i Adapter
• Onboard SATA Hard Drive
• Onboard PATA Hard Drive
• Onboard Network Controller
1.8 Select Drives and press Enter
1.9 Arrow down to SAS Controller and press Enter

1.10 Press the Left arrow key to set the SAS controller to off
1.11 Press Enter to save changes
1.12 Press ESC key then select Save/Exit and press Enter to save all changes made and exit the BIOS
setup

1.13 Power off the computer

2.0 Create Disk Partitions


2.1 Restart the system.
2.2 At “PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller” message press CTRL-R to run the configuration utility
2.3 Using the arrow keys, highlight Virtual Disk 0 and press F2
2.4 Using the arrow keys, highlight Delete VD and press Enter
2.5 Press Enter at confirmation message to select OK
2.6 Under “Virtual Disk Management” you should see Controller 0 – No Configuration Present!
2.7 Highlight the “No Configuration Present!” branch and press F2
2.8 Select Create New VD and press Enter
2.9 Use the Tab key to navigate through the setup fields:
• Set Raid level to RAID-0.
• Under “Physical Disks” highlight Drive 00:00 and press Space Bar to place the 00 next to it.
• Check all remaining drives the same way and set them to 01,02,and 03 respectively.
• Tab to Basic Settings and set VD Size = 20000MB,(note:use back space to remove the old size) VD
Name = System.
• Tab to O.K.
• Select Ok and press Enter.
• Select Ok at the Initialization message and press Enter.
2.10 Use the table below to configure the remaining Virtual Drives by performing the following steps:
• Highlight [+] Space Allocation branch.
• Press the Right Arrow key to expand the Space Allocation branch.
• Highlight *Free Space* (xxxxxxxxMB).
• Press F2, select Add New VD and then press Enter.
• Tab to Basic Settings.
• Fill out the VD Size and VD Name fields for Virtual Disk 1 and Virtual Disk 2 in the same manner
as in section 2.9

2.11 Virtual Drive Initialization


• Highlight Virtual Disk 0 under [-] Virtual Disks branch

• Press F2, select Initialization
• Press Right Arrow key, select “Fast Init.” and then press Enter to fast initialize the virtual drive
• Press Enter to confirm initialization.
• Repeat this section for all remaining Virtual Disks (Virtual Disk 1, virtual Disk 2)

2.12 After the Virtual drive setup is complete you should see:

[-] Controller 0

2.13 Exit configuration utility by pressing ESC key, then select OK in the exit dialog box and press Enter
2.14 Power off the PC

3.0 Display Cards Installation (Client and Standalone)

3.1 Open the PC.

3.2 Remove the VGA card, which is installed in the computer. Place in an anti-static bag, and store in
the Dell accessories and documentation box. This will be included with the computer when it is
packed.

3.3 To configure a system with Barco CRTs and the Multi Modality option do the following:

3.3.1 Install one 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card into the upper most PCI Express slot.

3.3.2 Connect the Dell accessories power cable to the 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card

3.3.3 Install two Barco 5MP1HM cards in the 64 bit PCI slots. These slots are the first available
slots closest to the bottom of the computer. Card 1 is installed in the top most slot (left-slot),
card 2 in the bottom most slot (right-slot). The VGA jumper on both cards should be
disabled.

3.4 If the system comes with Barco Coronis LCDs and the Multi Modality option then

3.4.1 Install one 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card into the upper most PCI Express slot.

3.4.2 Connect the Dell power cable to the one 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card

3.4.3 Insert the Barco Coronis video card into a PCI64 slot. The VGA jumper on the Coronis
LCD card should be disabled.

3.5 Close the PC and stand it up.

4.0 Display Setup (Client and Standalone)

4.1 Ensure that Barco Display 1 is on the left; Barco Display 2 is on the right.

4.2 If the system comes with Barco CRTs then

4.2.1 Connect the BARCO 5MP1HM to the monitors using the video cable. Match the colors on
the cables to the colors on the board (refer to AD-00750). Connect Cable 1 with Card 1 and
Monitor 1; connect Cable 2 with Card 2 and Monitor 2. On the monitors, Green=Video,
Black=HS/CS, and White=VS.

4.2.2 Connect the serial data cables to the COM1 port and to the monitors.

4.3 If the system comes with Barco Coronis LCDs then

4.3.1 Connect the DVI video cables to the monitors as in Figure 1 in Appendix A.

4.4 To configure the Multi Modality option do the following:

4.4.1 Connect the DVI video cable to the Multi Modality monitor and to the right DVI port of the
one 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card if you are facing the back of the computer.

4.4.2 Connect the power cable to the Multi Modality monitor and UPS

5.0 Install the Image

5.1 Turn the PC on.

5.2 Obtain the disks from the assembly that will be shipped with the system, and insert the first
SYSTEM Ghost CD.

5.3 When the DOS prompt appears type restore and press Enter. The Ghost application runs.

5.4 Ghost software will begin the restore process. If a license agreement warning appears, select OK.

5.5 When the software prompts for the next CD, remove the CD and insert the second SYSTEM Ghost
CD, and press Enter.

5.6 When restoring is done, Ghost will exit and the monitor will display the DOS prompt.

5.7 Insert the Application Ghost and Restart the computer by pressing <Ctrl><Alt><Delete>
5.8 When the system restarts, it will boot off the CD and display the command prompt again.

5.9 At the command prompt, type restore and press Enter. The Ghost application runs.
5.10 If a License Agreement warning appears, press OK.
5.11 When the task is completed, you will be returned to the command prompt.
5.12 If a Data Ghost is provided, Insert the Data Ghost and Restart the computer by pressing
<Ctrl><Alt><Delete>
5.13 When the system restarts, it will boot off the CD and display the command prompt again.
5.14 At the command prompt, type restore and press Enter. The Ghost application runs.
5.15 If a License Agreement warning appears, press OK.
5.16 When the task is completed, you will be returned to the command prompt.
5.17 Remove the CD and restart the computer.
o Upon restart, Windows XP will initialize itself through an automated setup process. After the setup
process is complete the system will reboot into Windows XP.

6.0 Setting Network Address

6.1 Login as the Windows user Administrator, password: $ecur06810View

6.2 If a window titled “Found New Hardware Wizard” appears, click on the Cancel button

6.3 Connect the SecurView DX workstation to a test computer using a 10/100Base- T crossover cable.

Note: To avoid conflict, only one SecurView DX workstation with the default IP address should be
connected to the network at a time.

6.4 On the Windows desktop, right click on My Network Places.

6.5 Select Properties. The “Network and Dial-up Connections” windows appears.

6.6 Right click on “Local Area Connection”

6.7 Select Properties. The “Local Area Connection Properties” window appears.

6.8 Highlight “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the Properties button.

6.9 Enter the following for the network information:

IP Address: 157.111.75.50
Subnetmask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 157.111.1.1
6.10 Leave the DNS information blank.

6.11 Select OK to close the window “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties”


6.12 If a window appears titled “Microsoft TCP/IP” click the No button.
6.13 In the window titled “Local Area Connection” highlight File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks and click the Uninstall button. Confirm the uninstall by clicking on the Yes button.

6.14 Click on the Close button
6.15 If a “Local Network” dialog appears. Click No, so the computer does not restart.
6.16 From the test computer, open a DOS command prompt.
o Type “ping 157.111.75.50” and confirm that a reply message is received.

7.0 Setup Scripts and Drive Letter Change

7.1 If a Data Partition CD is available, instead of a Data Ghost ,


7.1.1 Place the Data Partition Setup Disk into the CD-ROM drive:
7.1.2 Double click on My Computer.
7.1.3 Navigate to the CD and double-click on DataPart.exe
7.1.4 At the “Data Partition Setup” message box click on the Yes button
7.1.5 The script will create the Data partition and copy the proper contents to it, which might take
10-15 minutes to complete
7.1.6 Once the Data partition is successfully created the “Data Partition Setup” message box will
be displayed, click on the OK button
7.1.7 Remove the CD from the CD drive.
7.1.8 Navigate to Desktop and double-click on the My Computer
7.1.9 Under Hard Disk Drives, confirm that the following drives are listed:
• Local Disk (C:)
• Application (E:)
• Data (F:)
7.1.10 Close all windows.
7.2 Run the Setup Scripts by doing the following:
7.2.1 In Windows Explorer navigate to “C:\SetupScripts\Coronis”. (Note: use this directory
regardless of whether this is a CRT or LCD system, if the system is a manager use directory
“C:\SetupScripts\Manager”)
7.2.2 Highlight Linkremover.exe and press the Enter key. Click on Yes at the prompt.
7.2.3 Highlight BackupTask.exe and press the Enter key. Click on Yes at the prompt.
7.2.4 Highlight Driveletters.exe and press the Enter key. Click on Yes at the prompt. After
running this script the computer will reboot.
7.2.5 After the system has rebooted log into Windows as the user administrator
(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)
7.2.6 If a window titled “Found New Hardware Wizard” appears, Click on the Cancel button
7.3 Create Exports directory (Only if directory f:\Exports does not exist)
7.3.1 Check if f:\Exports exists, if it does, skip this step
7.3.2 Click on the Windows Start button and select Run…
7.3.3 In the “Run” window type cmd /c mkdir f:\Exports and click on the OK button
7.3.4 Confirm that the F:\Exports directory has been created by navigating to the root of Data
partition (F: drive)
9.4 Close all windows.
8.0 Set Permissions for SCR user

8.1 Double Click on My Computer

8.2 For each of the drives C:\, E:\, and F:\ do the following steps:

8.2.1 Right-Click on the drive and select Properties

8.2.2 Select the Security tab

8.2.3 Highlight “Everyone”

8.2.4 In the “Full Control” row of the “Special Permissions for Users” table, check the Allow box.
. (Note that this action will check all boxes in the column. If this configuration is already
set then skip the next step. For the f: drive it will be necessary to click Apply in the next
step.)

8.2.5 Click on the Apply button.

8.2.6 Click on the Advanced button.

8.2.7 Click on the Permissions tab.

8.2.8 Check the checkbox for “Replace permission entries on all ….. “

8.2.9 Click on the Effective Permissions tab.

8.2.10 Click on the Select button.

8.2.11 In the window titled “Select User or Group” enter the user name “scr” in the field titled
“Enter the objects name to select.”

8.2.12 Click on the OK button.

8.2.13 In the field “Effective permissions:” make sure that all check boxes are checked. (Note for
Coronis displays, the checked boxes will appear as solid black boxes.)

8.2.14 Click on the Apply button

8.2.15 A message box will appear titled “Security” click on the Yes button.

8.2.16 Click on the OK button for the window titled “Advanced Security Settings …”

8.2.17 Click on the OK button for the window titled with the disk driver letter.

8.2.18 Close all windows.

9.0 Video driver Installation (for clients and standalones with Multimodality)

9.1 If the system has Barco LCDs Installed do the following :

9.1.1 Double click on “My Computer”, and navigate to the


C:\Video_Drivers\CoronisLCDDrivers directory.

9.1.2 Double click on the Setup.exe file
9.1.3 Follow on-screen instructions to upgrade the Barco LCD driver where:

- DualView is to be enabled
- Uncheck DPMS screen saver
- “static gray palette with NO system colors” is to be selected
- The computer is to be restarted.
- At Hardware Installation window click Continue Anyway.
- After system reboots Log in as Administrator
(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)
9.1.4 If a window titled “Hardware Installation” appears click on the Continue Anyway button.
9.1.5 For each window titled “Found New Hardware Wizard” click on the Cancel button
9.1.6 Log out of the Windows Administrator account and Login as SCR user

(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)

9.1.7 If a message box titled “ERROR:” will appear, click on the OK button
9.1.8 At the SecurView log-in screen, log in as user: service
(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)

9.1.9 Click on the Exit to Windows button to exit software.


9.1.10 Click on the OK button to confirm exit.
9.1.11 Double click on My Computer, and navigate to the
“C:\Video_Drivers\CoronisLCDrivers\RegEdit\” directory
9.1.12 Double click on the RemovePnPSetupFromRunKey.reg file
9.1.13 Click on the Yes button at the message box titled “Registry Editor”, and then click on the
OK button at the next “Registry editor” message box
9.1.14 Log off SCR and login as Windows Administrator
9.2 Place the supplied Drive Software CD for the 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card into the CD
Drive.
9.3 Enter Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs.
9.3.1 Select ATI Control Panel then select Remove.
9.3.2 At ATI Control Panel Setup select Remove then select Next.
9.3.3 Select OK at confirm File Deletion dialog.
9.3.4 Select NO, I will restart my computer later.
9.3.5 Select Finish.
9.3.6 Select ATI Display Driver then select Remove.
9.3.7 In Uninstall Display Driver for: select the Select All button then select OK.
9.3.8 Select NO at Restart Computer prompt.
9.3.9 Select ATI-Software Uninstall Utility then select Remove.
9.3.10 Select OK at the confirmation to remove all ATI related software from your system.
9.3.11 Select Yes to restart the computer now.

9.4 After restart Login as Administrator

9.5 If a window titled “Found New Hardware Wizard” appears click on the Cancel button

9.6 Navigate to the CD-ROM drive and double-click on the ATI setup.exe file.
9.6.1 Select Next in the Install Shield window.
9.6.2 Select Yes to the license agreement.
9.6.3 Select the Custom button under Select Components.
9.6.4 Un-Check the Catalyst Control Center. Note: doing this Un-Check Marks the ATI Display
Driver.
9.6.5 Check the ATI Display Driver and the WDM Integrated Drivers.
9.6.6 Select Next.
9.6.7 At window titled “Setup Complete”, select Finish to restart computer then remove driver
CD.
9.7 After restart Login to Windows as Administrator

9.8 Right-Click on My Computer and select Manage

9.9 In the window titled “Computer Management” click on the Device Manager in the left column.

9.10 Expand the “Display Adapters” section.

9.11 Right click the 670/690 Multi Modality graphics card “Secondary” controller and select Disable.

9.12 Click on the Yes button to confirm disabling.

9.13 Click on the Yes button to restart the computer

9.14 After restart log into Windows as Administrator.

(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)

9.15 Remove the Driver Software CD.

9.16 For each window titled “Found New Hardware Wizard” appears

9.16.1 Click the Cancel button

10.0 Barco CRT Monitor Configuration (for clients and standalones with Multimodality which have
Barco CRTs, MM systems with LCD monitors should go back to section11.0)

10.1 Set Monitor Properties


10.1.1 Right click on the desktop, select “Properties”.
10.1.2 Click on the "Settings" tab.
10.1.3 Select the left Barco monitor
10.1.4 Click “Advanced” on the bottom right
10.1.5 Click on the Barcomed Driver tab

10.1.6 Make sure that the Palette mode is set to “Static Gray Palette with NO system colors”
10.1.7 Ensure that under Drawing modes, the “Enable Direct Draw” box is checked.
10.1.8 Under Monitor Configuration, ensure that “One Monitor” is selected.
10.1.9 Press OK, and repeat steps (5) to (9) for the right monitor.
10.2 Activating and Moving Display Position for Multi Modality
10.2.1 Click on the Settings tab in the “Display Properties”

10.2.2 Click on Monitor 1. Click on the check box for “Extend my Windows desktop onto this
monitor” then click on the check box for “Use this device as the primary monitor”.
10.2.3 Click the OK button.
10.2.4 Test the monitor configuration so that the mouse travels across the monitors as diagramed
above.
10.2.5 Right-Click on the taskbar.
10.2.6 Uncheck the option Lock the Taskbar.
10.2.7 Drag the taskbar to the bottom of Monitor 1.
10.2.8 Right-Click on the taskbar.
10.2.9 Check the option Lock the Taskbar.
10.2.10 Move the cursor to an empty area over taskbar and right click.
10.2.11 In the drop-down menu select Properties
10.2.12 Once the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” window appears, locate and
un-check the Keep the taskbar on top of other windows option. Click on the Ok button to
close the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” window.
10.2.13 Click on the Start button and select Log off Administrator .
10.2.14 Login as the Windows user SCR.

(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)

10.2.15 Once the SecurView DX software has loaded login as the user admin and
click on the Exit to Windows button.
10.2.16 Double Click on the icon for “TB ON” on the desktop.
10.2.17 Repeat steps 10.2.8 to 10.2.12 for the SCR user
10.3 Configure Monitors
10.3.1 Obtain mask from monitor accessory package.

10.3.2 Plug test photometer into an available USB port.
Note: If the system prompts you that new hardware has been found, follow instructions to
load the drivers by browsing to C:\xrite.

10.3.3 A screen may appear to install the MediCal Pro software. It is NOT necessary to install the
software. Click the Exit button and remove the CD.

10.3.4 Attach the mask to the photometer head.


10.3.5 Lower the lights as much as possible.
10.3.6 Select "Start\Programs\MediCal Pro Version 2.03”.
10.3.7 Upon starting MediCal Pro, you will get the message “There are no displays in your current
configuration. Do you want to log in as advanced user to add displays? Click Yes.
10.3.8 It will prompt you to login. (Alternately: go to Tools/Options/User Login)

10.3.9 Log is as:


Username: <Default>
Password: advanced
10.3.10 If a prompt titled, “Do you want to connect to MediCal Administrator?” is displayed,
select No.
10.3.11 If a configuration check appears. Click OK.

10.3.12 Click on Configuration Setup. The Configuration Wizard starts.

10.3.13 At the first step, click Next

10.3.14 When asked which type of displays, select Barco CRT and click Next

10.3.15 It will search for the displays. When it reports it found two monitors, click Next

10.3.16 With the Multi Modality monitor installed define the B & C heads as instructed, and
click Next

10.3.17 When the window titled “Remaining Imaging Board Head” appears select the NO
radio button and click on the Next button.

10.3.18 At the Display Function step, confirm the Display function is “DICOM” and
Ambient Light Compensation” is checked and click Next.

10.3.19 At the Black & White luminance step, say Yes to specify values. Click Next.

10.3.20 Enter White luminance: 300 and black luminance: 0 and click Next.

10.3.21 At the Calibrate step, DO NOT check calibrate all displays now. And click Next.

10.3.22 When the configuration setup is complete, click Finish

10.4 Calibrate Monitors

10.4.1 Right click on the left Barco monitor icon and select Calibrate and follow instructions to
calibrate monitor.
10.4.2 Right click on the right Barco monitor icon and select Calibrate and follow instructions to
calibrate monitor.
10.4.3 Right click on the left Barco monitor and select Full Screen Calibration then select All
Zones then select Start and follow on-screen instructions. When complete, Click Ok to
close window
10.4.4 Right click on the right Barco monitor and select Full Screen Calibration then select All
Zones then select Start and follow on-screen instructions. When complete, Click Ok to
close window.
10.5 Confirmation of Medical-Pro settings
10.5.1 In the Medical-Pro software, click on Q/A Setup.
10.5.2 For each task, right click and select Properties
10.5.3 Confirm the values using the following table Update to the values by double clicking on
each one, if necessary. Note the “Measure Display Black” values in particular.

12.0 Barco CRT Monitor Configuration (for clients and standalones without Multimodality which have
Barco CRTs, Non multimodality systems with LCD monitors should skip to Step 13.0)

12.1 Install the Barco drivers

12.1.1 If a message box appears: “Windows has finished installing new devices. You must restart
your computer before the new settings will take affect. Do you want to restart your
computer now?” Click on the Yes button. The computer will restart.

12.1.2 Log in as “administrator”

(Note: see the Users and Passwords section in Appendix A)

12.1.3 At this point, if the system detects new Barco Video cards.

12.1.4 Cancel the windows installer by clicking “No” In “Digital Signature Not Found” dialogue

12.2 Configure Monitors
12.2.1 Obtain mask from monitor accessory package.

12.2.2 Plug test photometer into an available USB port.


Note: If the system prompts you that new hardware has been found, follow instructions to
load the drivers by browsing to C:\xrite.

12.2.3 A screen may appear to install the MediCal Pro software. It is NOT necessary to install the
software. Click the Exit button and remove the CD.

12.2.4 Attach the mask to the photometer head.
