TOPIC:
NATIONAL CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
INTRODUCTION:
In the year 2015, after the success of the south Indian movie ‘Bahubali’ the Indian
Govt. came to form a policy in the sector of Animation to enhance the quality of work
being done. This policy was to enhance the animation, Vfx, gaming, & comics present
scenario so as India can compete with other countries in this sector. This Policy is
shortly called AVGC.
The sector employs 85,000 people mostly (>80%) in the production and post-
production segments of the value chain and is expected to employ an additional
80,000 people by 2025(report of KPMG).
Given that in the next 10 years, the AVGC sector will require 24,000 professionals
with a graduate degree or above and there will only be around 16,000 students
graduating from recognized degree awarding institutes (report of IIMC), there is a
strong case for setting up an institutional chain which will augment the supply of
graduates in the AVGC sector.
So to increase the number of professionals in this field the Maharashtra Govt. came up
with a proposal of Creating National Centre of Excellence in association of Indian
Institute of Mass comm.in Film City, Mumbai.
