Embedded Systems
and their Applications
in our Daily Routine
EMBEDDED SYSTEM

What is an Embedded System?
Embedded System

 An Embedded System is a computer system

mainly designed to perform several task
like access, process, store and also control
that data in various electronic-based
system.

Embedded System

 An Embedded Systems are a combination

of hardware and software where software
is usually known as firmware that is
embedded into the hardware.

Embedded System

 An Embedded System is a combination of

hardware and software that is designed for
specific task, providing a function and
embedded within a larger electrical
system.

Embedded Systems are usually based on
Microcontrollers, but used to be mostly
based on Microprocessor
Microcontroller vs Microprocessor

 Microprocessor contain only CPU, has no

inbuilt RAM or ROM

 Microcontrollers
have CPU as well as fixed
amount of RAM and ROM
Role of Embedded Systems in our Daily Routine:
Embedded systems perform specific tasks.
They have microcontroller as the main part which controls all the
operations required through them. This presentation on examples
of embedded systems can help you to get an idea of common
systems which we use in our daily lives.
These systems are smart and more efficient, which is increasing
their use day by day. Almost every device that we use today is an
example of embedded systems. Embedded systems examples can
be seen at our homes, at offices, in industries and in automation
systems.
So, in simple words, most of the daily routine appliances, devices
or automated equipment lies in the circle of Embedded Systems
Examples.
Role of Embedded Systems in our Daily Routine:
Few of these Examples of Embedded Systems were discussed
in this presentation, if you learn embedded systems then you
can also create something, helpful to society. So, let’s get
started with these Examples of Embedded Systems.
Automobiles
Home Security Systems
Automated Teller Machine
Industrial Robots
Digital Camera
Personal Digital Assistant
Automatic Washing Machine
Microwave Oven
Generally, ES comprises of the ff:

 Power Supply
 Memory
 Processor
 Timers
 Output/Input Circuits
 Serial Communication ports
 SASC (System Application Specific Circuits)
Types of Embedded System

 Stand-alone system
 Real-time embedded system
 Network-embedded systems
 Mobile embedded systems
Stand-alone system
 This type of embedded system works for itself as
a device without needing any interconnected
computer. It can take data in the form of analog
or digital signals.
 Microwave ovens
 Digital cameras
 Mp3 players
 Video game consoles
 Temperature measurement systems
Real-time embedded system

 Real-time systems are those which give a quick

response to critical situations. They are used in
military, medical and industrial applications.
 To develop the real-time embedded system we
require timing analysis, multitasking design,
debugging, cross-platform testing and
architecture design
 Controlling heat, elevators, lights, and doors in buildings
 Robots
 Traffic control system including railway tracks, airspace, shipping lines,
highways
 Radio, satellite and telephone communication
 Patient monitoring system
 Radiation therapy system in the hospital
 Computer games
 Multimedia systems which consist of video, audio, text and graphics
interfaces
 Military usage that includes tracking, weapons, and command & control
Network-embedded systems
 Networked embedded systems are those systems which are
connected to the network to give output to the attached
resources. The devices in the networked embedded system are
connected to the network with network interfaces. The
network can be either a local area network (LAN) or a wide
area network (WAN).
 Ex. office security system. In office security system, different
sensors (light sensors, smoke sensors or motion detectors) are
networked together through LAN and controlled over the WAN
(internet).
Mobile embedded systems

 Mobile embedded systems are limited in resources

including memory. Examples of mobile embedded
systems include:-
 Personal digital assistants (PDA)
 Cellular phones
 Mp3 players
 Digital cameras,
Key Feature of an Embedded System

 Generally is designed to carry out one

function .
 Often repeat the function over and over
again.
 SomeES designed to control the entire
operating system.
