Rubric
Following your presentation to the junior website developers, you are to design and
create a multipage website following industry practice. You will analyse your
progress and test the functionality of the website. Ensure to document your progress
and write up your success and areas for improvements.
Your company have been asked, to produce a Web site for a marketing client. You
are required to create an interactive website with the emphasis being on the
production of a set of simple dynamic web pages, which embody good design
principles. The site will be themed around a template, with placeholders for text and
content. Images and icons will be used, to give the client a feel for the proposed
website design. You will also include a membership area, where users can register
to have access to restricted areas.
Your site must be visually attractive and easy to use conforming to general web
page design principles and standard HCI conventions. Your development will
consider a range of technologies and features including:
Design
Evaluate a range of different websites focusing on design and explain the
features that you will use in your development
Identify the nature of interactivity to be included in the development
Review accessibility standards and guidelines and their possible impact on
design and aesthetics. Consideration of the end user needs in the form of a
contextual user profile
Wireframes for each proposed page considering layout techniques, templates
dimensions and colour schemes.
You will design an appropriate site map for the
development and justify the type of structure adopted.
Discuss why and how the quality of content can affect the performance of a
website.
Compare your website to your original designs and draw conclusions from
your lifecycle.
Implementation
Produce technical documentation describing in technical language, how all of
the features of the system were created, (appropriate use of annotated screen
shots and sample source code (HTML 5, CSS 3 and JavaScript/PHP) should
be used).a
Create onscreen help to assist the users
Printouts of the webpage’s as displayed in the browser (in colour)
Printout of all source code suitably commented will be provided as
appendices (HTML 5, CSS 3 and JavaScript/PHP)
Critically evaluate your work analysing any technical qualities and challenges.
Testing
The production of a test plan (QA) and procedures displaying thorough testing
of the design. The test plan should test the functional and non-functional
requirements, browser compatibility, platform testing, script testing and valid
code. The test plan should reference appropriate screen shots.
Analyse the actual test results against the expected results to identify any
discrepancies. It is expected that testing takes place throughout the
development lifecycle. Evaluate how successful your testing was.
Consider the effects of good and bad search engine optimisation (SEO) and
indexing on the performance of a website.
Assess the impact of poorly optimised website graphics.
Review the overall success of your website in the form of a written evaluation.
