Standards:
Social Studies: 4. Students use map and globe skills to determine the absolute locations of
places and interpret information available through a map or globe’s legend, scale, and symbolic
representations

Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other
media by asking and answering questions about key details and requesting clarification if
something is not understood.
Objective: Students will be able to identify key details about Christmas in Germany by drawing
a picture and labeling at least 4 parts. Students will also accurately complete the interactive
writing page for Germany.
Opening
• Show Youtube Video “Christmas Around the World” as a hook.
• Introduce to students what we ill be learning today.
• Show students the completed sample of the Holidays Around the World interactive
book.
• Tell students that they are going to be learning about a country each day.
• “Today we will be learning about how Christmas is celebrated in Germany”
• Show YouTube video “German Christmas Market”
Body
• Use a poster paper to make a circle map with the word Germany in the middle, ask
students to remember what they saw in the video and raise their hand to contribute to
the circle map
• Tell students that they are now going to be listening to a book on Christmas in Germany.
• Tell students that their job is to think of new details to add to the circle map.
• Read “Christmas in Germany” book and pause between each couple of pages to add
more details to the circle map.
• Go over the circle map.
• Ask students questions on the circle map and have students show a thumbs up or
thumbs down if the details matched what they had learned. “Did _____ look like
Christmas in Germany…show me a thumbs up or thumbs down” (Take notes on who
answered the question wrong)
