A Morning Service of The Word
A Morning Service of The Word
Greeting
O Lord, open our lips
All and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Give us the joy of your saving help
All and sustain us with your life-giving Spirit.
We have come together in the name of Christ to offer our praise and thanksgiving,
to hear and receive God’s holy word, to pray for the needs of the world, and to
seek forgiveness of our sins, that by the power of the Holy Spirit we may give
ourselves to the service of God.
Prayers of Penitence
God so loved the world
That he gave his only Son Jesus Christ
To save us from our sins,
To be our advocate in heaven,
And to bring us to eternal life.
Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, “Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the
deepest depths or in the highest heights.”
But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test.”
Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the
patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord
himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will
call him Immanuel.
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to
Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named
Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to
her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.”
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this
might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found
favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him
Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God
will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s
descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most
High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of
God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she
who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from
God will ever fail.”

Prayers
Intercessions – we shall offer some intercessions and then have a few moments
of quiet prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, so we pray:
All: Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory
For ever and ever. Amen
Blessing
The Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil,
And keep us in eternal life.
All: Amen
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
All: In the name of Christ. Amen
