Lesson Reflection Form

Although the teacher was unable to perform the planned kindness lesson due to COVID-19, she believes it would have gone well and engaged the students productively. The lesson involved discussions and a fun assessment game. It aimed to remind students about the importance of kindness through an upbeat message. The teacher felt prepared with a simple, discussion-based plan but would have needed to watch timing in the short class period.

Personal Lesson Reflection Form

Teacher’s Name: Kayla Jones

Date of Lesson: Due to the current circumstances with the COVID-19, I was not able to
perform my lesson

Lesson Topic: Kindness

1. What went well in the lesson? Explain

Although I was not able to perform my lesson, I think it would have gone very well. I
think the lesson would have been fun for the kids, while also giving them a good life
lesson. Yes, math, spelling, and writing are extremely important, however, what good is
it to know those things without knowing to be a good person? That is why I wanted to
give a kindness lesson. If kids are taught kindness young, it should stick with them in
their future. I think that my lesson would have been upbeat, and a breath of fresh air for
the kids and the teachers, kind of like a quick fun lesson for everybody!

2. As I reflect on the lesson, to what extent were the students productively engaged in
the work? How do I know?
I think the kids would have been very engaged in this lesson. This is because the lesson
involved a lot of discussions, and those kids love to talk! They love telling stories, and
this lesson would have given them a chance to do that. The kids in my class are also hard
workers, they always do what they are asked. I think the kids would have been productive
and engaged in this lesson because it was going to be upbeat and it was supposed to be
fun for them!

3. Preparation and research - Was I well prepared? - What could I have done
differently?
I think I would have been prepared; this is because the lesson was very simple. It was
very discussion based, with a simple activity at the end.

4. How was your pacing/timing?

This is a hard question to judge, based on the fact that I could not do the lesson, but I
think that I would have to really watch my timing if I did this lesson. This is because,
those elementary school classes are very busy. When I talked about it with my teacher,
we figured that I would only have about 15-20 minutes to perform my lesson. So, if I
were to do my lesson, I would have to watch my timing and my pace, especially because
the lesson was very discussion based.
5. Assessment – Does my method of assessment measure what I want? How did the
class do? What should I change for next time?
I think that my plan for assessing the kids on my lesson was a good plan. I feel this way
because my lesson was supposed to be very upbeat, and fun, and my way of assessing the
kids was a game. I think that the kids would have had fun with it, while also learning
about kindness.

6. Did you meet all of your objectives? How do you know?

I think I would have met all of my objectives. The lesson was purely for my students to learn
about kindness. The kids all know that being kind is a good decision, and this lesson was
supposed to highlight it. The lesson was sort of like a review of being kind, and to teach the
kids why it is so important. Again, I think it was a simple lesson and I think I would have
been able to meet my objectives.

7. If anything, what would you do differently? Explain.

I don’t think I would do anything differently, I would have to see how the lesson worked
out if I had the chance to perform it.
