SAQ
A. The religions of the Inca and Aztec civilizations were similar. For example, both
civilizations were polytheistic. The most important god to the Inca was the sun god, but
they worshipped other gods as well. The Aztecs worshipped an ever-evolving pantheon
of hundreds of deities. Because The Inca and Aztec civilizations shared similar religious
structures, it is clear that they had similar cultures.
B. Inca and Aztecs maintained their empires in different ways. For example, when the Inca
conquered people they were subject to the mita system. The mita system was a form of
mandatory public service where men had to do labor such as constructing roads. Unlike
the Inca, the Aztecs used a tribute system. People conquered by the Aztecs were forced
to pay tribute, surrender lands, and serve in the military. This is one example of how the
Inca and Aztecs maintained their governments in different ways.
C. People living under Aztec rule wanted a change in rulers at the time the Europeans
arrived. This is because conquered people under the Aztecs were forced to pay tribute.
This caused more resentment than loyalty which led to the conquered people wanting to
rebel.
