Vehicle management computer (A403)

Vehicle management computer (A403)

The vehicle management computer takes over all the vehicle-specific functions from the engine and powertrain
control units. It therefore intervenes in the control functions of the ECUs for the engine, gearbox and brakes.

The powertrain CAN databus (T-CAN) links the vehicle management computer to the control units for the brakes,
gearbox, central on-board computer etc. The connection between the vehicle management computer and the
EDC is established via the engine CAN (M-CAN). Also connected to the vehicle management computer are
switches, sensors and actuators for other functions.

Special features of the vehicle management computer include optimising cooling and engine warming as well as
recording trend data, service data and load data.

Vehicle management computer inputs and outputs

Frequency inputs
Vehicle speed signal / ECO-Power

The input can be defined as a vehicle speed signal input (pulse width modulated) or as a switch input (Low-Side)
for ECO-Power.

The vehicle speed signal is sent to the vehicle management computer via the instrumentation CAN databus (I-
CAN), the central on-board computer and the powertrain CAN databus (T-CAN).

The ECO-Power function can be used to switch from "normal engine curve" to "reduced governed maximum
speed".

Connector/pin Function
X3/8 The input is designed for connecting a switch to UBat. It is configured to ensure that, at a
nominal resistance of 1.47 kΩ, line discontinuity is detected parallel to the switch.

Fault detection:

Short-circuits and load interrupts can be detected as an error state for any output if the connected load has a
resistance < 400Ω. It is not possible to distinguish between the state "short-circuit to UBat" and the state "load
interrupt".
