RESORT
a PBL Project
You’ve been selected to design a resort from the
ground up, and the land is FREE! This is the
opportunity of a lifetime! You will work through
everything from the name, location,
activities/amenities, and overall design. Create a
resort that will get the people talking and bring in the
big bucks! We are excited to see what you come up
with!
On the next few pages you will find a rubric with
project expectations, a suggested timeline, templates,
and planning pages. You may use the templates and
planning, but it is not required. Your finished
project/product will include

Project Rubric
This project takes elements of math, writing, science, ELA, social studies,
and technology and combines them with student imagination and creativity
as they work through designing their very own resort. Keep in mind that
students can create a hard copy or a digital version of all project
components. We are excited to see their creations!

Content Area Project Points

(Hint/Idea: This could be included in the shapes of your


buildings, street signs, or landscapes.)
Create a grid on the perimeter of your model. This can
be an approximation, or you can use a ruler to be exact.
You can use whole numbers and/or fractional units.
Coordinate
Identify 4 structures using the coordinates you created

Research biomes using any (or all) of the links below. Once you’ve researched your biomes, select a
biome to house your resort. Here are approved biomes that you may choose from: tropical
rainforest, tropical dry forest, tropical savanna, desert, temperate grassland, temperate woodland
and shrubland, temperate forest, northwestern coniferous forest, boreal forest, and tundra.

If you’d like to select a different biome, please reach out to Mrs. Hembree for approval. (5 points)

Create a list of five plants (trees, flowers, bushes) that would thrive in your biome. (5 points)

Create a list of five animals that would thrive in your biome and could likely be found “wandering”
(HINT: or flying, or swimming) around your resort. (5 points)

Include at least one plant and one animal in your resort model. (5 points)
