UNIT DESCRIPTION
Simple, tried and tested design. Low-cost purchase and operation
to equip small delivery vehicles.
Two types of power drive are available:
. By the vehicle engine on-the-road : Road version
. By the vehicle engine on-the-road and by switching the unit to
standby on engine shutdown : Road/Standby version.
The control and regulation circuits operate on 12 VDC.

UNIT DESCRIPTION
CAB CONTROL
This functional accessory simplifies all control operations. From his
seat, the driver can carry out all the control operations: start-up,
shut-down, road or standby operation, adjusting the set-point
(defrost on option). He can display the box temperature, and with
the temperature alarm lights, know if the required set-point is
being maintained. When the battery voltage is less than 10.5 volts,
a fail-safe system shuts down the unit. Unit start-up is automatic
and time-delayed if the voltage rises above 10.5 volts.

UNIT OPERATION
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
- Over the road, an open compressor is driven by a 12 VDC
electric motor, powered by the 12 VDC alternator and the
vehicle battery. The vehicle 12 VDC also powers the evaporator
and condenser fans. It is therefore essential to shut-down the
unit when the vehicle engine has stopped.
- On standby, the electric motor of the unit drives a generator
which supplies the power necessary to run the evaporator and
condenser fans. The control is powered by a transformer
installed inside the unit.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
- As soon as the set-point temperature has been reached,
regulation is obtained by the start-up and shut-down of the
electric motor.
- The condenser and evaporator fans shut down during the off
cycle.
NEVER RUN THE UNIT WITH NO GAS.
- WHEN THERE IS A LEAK ON THE SUCTION SIDE
THERE IS ABSORPTION OF HUMIDITY.
- WHEN THERE IS A LEAK OF THE DISCHARGE SIDE
THERE IS A LOSS OF REFRIGERATION OIL.
THIS CAN LEAD TO THE COMPRESSOR SEIZING UP.
CONTROL COMPONENTS
- Cab control:
- Integrated defrost timer.
- Visual alarm displays of high and low temperatures
- Error messages in the event of unit malfunction
- Detection of battery voltage.

is time-delayed for 40 seconds).
- The digital display of the cab control displays the box
temperature.
- Check the temperature set-point is right by pressing the SET
key (6) ; the digital display reads out the set-point.
- Enter a new set-point if necessary (see temperature set-point
adjustment).
IN THE EVENT OF DIFFICULTY ON START-UP, CHECK THAT:
- The cab control and power fuses have not blown.
- The temperature selected by the cab control has not been
affected.
UNIT SHUT-DOWN
- Press the OFF key (4).
IMPORTANT
Always shut-down the refrigeration unit before shutting-down the

PRODUCT LOADING
Proper air circulation in the truck body, i.e. that can move around
and through the load, is a critical element in maintaining product
quality during transport. If air cannot circulate completely around
the load, hot-spots during defrost can occur.
The use of packaging which enables air circulation in the lower
section is highly recommended, in order to enable the free flow of
air and its return to the evaporator. Appropriate packaging helps
to protect the products from the heat passing through the floor of
the vehicle.
Product stacking is another important factor in protecting the
product. Those generating heat, such as fruit and vegetables,
should be stacked in such a way to allow air to flow around the
products, to remove the heat they generate: the process is called
”air stacking” the product. Goods which do not generate heat, such
as frozen meat and other frozen food products, should be stacked
tightly in the centre of the box. All the products should be kept
well away from the sidewalls of the box, enabling air to circulate
between the box and the load; this prevents the heat filtering
through the sidewalls from damaging the products.
It is important to check the temperature of the products during
loading to ensure they are at the correct temperature for transport.
The refrigeration unit is designed to maintain the temperature of
products at the temperature at which it was loaded; it was not
designed to refrigerate warm products.
A FEW SUGGESTIONS
Before loading
- Pre-cool the inside of the insulated body, by lowering the
temperature for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the humidity inside the box by running a manual
defrost cycle. This is only possible when the inside temperature
is 3°C or less.
54
PRODUCT LOADING
Note :
For stationnary utilization, we recommend to place the body in the
shade.
IMPORTANT :
Never leave a unit more than one month without operating it.
55
RECOMMENDED TRANSPORT TEMPERATURES
A few general recommendations on product transport
temperatures are given below. The information is for reference
purposes only, the set-points required by the shipper or receiver
have priority.
More detailed information is available from your Carrier
Transicold distributor.
56
STANDBY OPERATING GUIDELINES
For safe, reliable operation in Standby mode, it is important to
follow the following guidelines:
- Always switch the unit OFF before plugging it into the power
source.
- The extension cable and fuse used for Standby operation must
comply with the following table:

INSTALLATION
For assembly and during routine service operations
Access to the unit located above the cab may involve certain risks.
TAKE EVERY SAFETY MEASURE TO ACCESS THE UNIT.
Recommendation :
When handling the unit, use suitable lifting gear attached to the
lifting points provided for that purpose on the unit.
Note :
On installation, the unit should not protrude out of the body
clearance.
BATTERY
Maintenance :
Never leave a unit more than one month out of use. In the event of
a long standstill, charge the battery independently.
Before performing any welding on the chassis, take care to
disconnect the battery from the unit and the vehicle as well as from
the charge alternator and any other electronic system.
