Cindy Sherman • Born 1954 • American artist whose work consists exclusively of photographic self- portraits, depicting herself in many different contexts and as various imagined characters • One of her most famous works is called "Complete Untitled Film Stills," which is a series of 70 black- and-white photographs of herself in many of the roles of women in performance media • In the 1980s, Sherman used colour film and large prints, and focused more on costume, lighting and facial expression Gordon Magnin

in Nevada, USA • Lives and works in Southern California • Creates collages using appropriated photographic images • Gordon challenges the “intended objective, interpretation, and significance” of our daily diet of celebrity, advertising, and consumer based images Task 6 Week beginning Monday 18th May Produce a photograph in the style of the photographer that you have chosen to research • Try to create a photograph in the style of the person you have chosen (You may need to set up the photo and ask someone else to press the button on the camera!) • You may need to dress up/wear make up or face paint, consider lighting, the setting, what is in the background, should you take your photo inside or outside? Consider your pose and facial expressions very carefully • Do you need to edit or manipulate the photo digitally or physically by cutting/tearing/working into etc? • Study the photo that you are trying to recreate so that your work is accurate • Make sure that the photo you take is high quality • Take screenshots to document your progress • SAVE all of your attempts and put them in your PowerPoint presentation as a contact sheet • Annotate your work to explain what was most successful and what wasn’t and why (lots of help with this on the following slides)
