Summary
This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of acoustic panels made
from sponge gourd and polyester resin. The researchers mainly answered the following
questions: (1) What are the densities of the acoustic panels with different profiles? (2)
What are the frequency response graphs of the sound in the room after placing the
acoustic panels with different sound profiles? (3) Is there a significant difference in the
frequency response graphs of sound inside the room after placing the acoustic panels
The researchers come up with the study with the help of previous pieces of
literature and studies that discusses how useful the sponge gourd fibers and polyester
resin in acoustics as well as in different branches of science. This study primarily focused
to reduce the impact of noise by making acoustic panels with different sound profiles
such as flat surface, wedge-shaped and concave-shaped. After several trials for the
fabrication of the panels, the researchers come up with the best ratio and techniques in
order to make the desired panels. Each profile had three replicates for the
experimentation. The dimensions of the panels were one square foot and two inches thick
with an average density of 0.23 g/cm3. The frequency response graph of the sound
measured by using the panels were tested in accordance with a low-cost experimentation
After the experimentation, the researchers found that the concave-shaped panel
was the best sound profile among the three. Statistical analyses were used to determine
Findings
Based from the data gathered, the researchers attained the following findings:
1. The average density of the flat surface panel was 0.228 g/cm3.
4. The acoustic panels’ mean average was 0.23 g/cm3 which was considered as an ultra-
5. Based from the statistical analyses used in the study, the researchers found that there
was a/no significant difference in the frequency response graph measured in testing
Conclusion
Based on the results gathered from this study, the following conclusion were
hereby drawn:
1. Higher ratio of resin to fiber is more effective in binding the raw materials.
2. Shapes and forms of an acoustic panel can affect the room acoustics inside the room.
3. The use of software like the Room EQ Wizard is helpful in developing a room’s
acoustic treatments.
Recommendation
The researchers considered the relevance of the following for the future
1. The researchers can use different methods and experimental setup in determining
the effect of room treatments. Moreover, acoustic matters can be tested by the
very complicated and it will take a lot of reading and analyzing to understand a
3. For the raw materials, one can choose a fiber which is more available and
convenient to find.
4. Fabricating more replicates can be a good technique in order to have more accurate
results.
