INTRODUCTION TO C4I2SR SYSTEM ENGINEERING

(SYSE-861)

1. Educational Objectives: The purpose of the course is to provide the students coming
from both civilian and military background with the basic level knowledge on C4I
System. The course is targeted towards the potential designers, developers and users from
public and private sectors who are interested in understanding mission critical systems,
handing situations with the help of technology and wants to learn how (C4I) solutions
enables an organization to achieve a high state of situational awareness and operational
effectiveness. The course focuses on the theory and practice of C4I system and prepares
students for careers in research, design, and development of C4I systems, or in the use
and management of C4I systems. The course emphasizes the analytical and behavioral
aspects of engineering complex C4I systems, including the sensors, communications
systems, and information processing / decision-support systems.
2. Course Outcomes: After the course the student should have a fundamental
understanding on technical interpretation of Concept of Operation (CONOP) in the
context of mission critical operations such as military systems, national level crisis
management system, global command and control systems, tactical C3 systems and
corporate level management systems of large national and multinational enterprises. The
students will be taught to understand the real users' expectations from such system to
improve users' efficiency under stressed environment which demands a prompt and
accurate decision. The students will leave the institution with a firm understanding on
information fusion techniques to acquire relevant information from various sensors,
weapon- / control-systems and applications; and to visually represent their outputs on a
Fused Visualization System in a user friendly and comprehensive manner.
