Title : An essay about professional newcomer engineer.
Nowadays, we have seen a lot of development in every country around the word. The
development was in every aspect such technology, economy, education, health and others. Those
development was a sign that every country was achieving something and have their own mission
in order to fulfill the needed of a society. The increasing number of development around the
world also shown that the increasing number of manpower. To achieve something great we need
to start from a great person itself and to have a very good development we need to have a very
good engineer.
A good engineer doesn’t mean he need to have a good looking and appearance, all that
doesn’t enough to label someone as a good engineer because the truth is he need to have a very
good character such a responsible, hardworking, active, love to share knowledge and all
professional character that need to have for a engineer.
Sometimes, the problem was not coming from all engineers but several of them. For
example, the newcomer engineer that don’t have any experience but eager to have a rich life and
money, they could do anything as what they wanted were achieved. As we know as a new
engineer we need to follow the rule of our employer. In this case, we need to discuss several way
that may can be practice in order to avoid any illegal things among engineer especially for the
newcomer.
We know that as an engineer we cannot to decide any decision just for our own
importance such as we used any facility and confidential information to build our own company.
This was so unethical because we have used the confidential things from our employer company
in order to grab some money opportunity. This also have break one of the code of ethic that been
listed by National Society Professional of Engineer (NSPE), where Engineers shall disclose all
known or potential conflicts of interest that could influence or appear to influence their
judgment or the quality of their services. From that statement we knows that exposing
something confidential about the company was illegal.
This thing was not a good action as an engineer because for example when you used the
confidential thing of a company for your own importance then you will exposed it to the others
challenger and they will also know the weakness and secrets of the company. We also can be sue
due to the copyright that we make without any permission from our employer.
Therefore, to avoid this kind of the activity there a few ways that can be practice
especially for fresh graduate engineer. Firstly, before entering into the world of engineering
careers the newcomers need to strictly understand all the importance in a code of ethics for
engineer. By understanding this, it would affect the mindset of the engineer itself before making
any decision. The code of ethics will teach the engineers itself how to obey the rules and
regulation of engineering world. Second, the best way in order to have a good and professional
engineers was by the earlier education especially when they at a university level. Because at this
level, the will be exposed to the early stage of engineering career and by providing them a lot of
input while they still at this stage will affect their thinking process then will guide them to be
more professional and responsible in every things.
Furthermore, it was a better decision if we can show all engineering student a real
situation such as how the worst decision that make by an engineer can effect everything
surround. For me, as we wanted to have a really professional engineer we need to have one
platform were they can show their capability in handling some situation that mostly happen in
industrial world nowadays.
Third, every university need to apply some special exam especially about education that
related to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Code of Ethic of engineer. This exam will
be apply at the last semester of their study, by giving this type of exam to them this will notify us
how prepare the student itself to enter the working world soon. This exam will strictly give and if
they do not pass it they cannot graduate as an engineer. Maybe it look quite cruel but been cruel
for something good was actually better than we get them pass by the name of engineer only not
with the knowledge.
Every university also can take an opportunity by inviting someone that have many
experience in engineering world and sharing to all fresh graduate. By sharing this experience, lot
of student or fresh graduate can take the input. They also can use this knowledge when they
facing the true situation during work. The sharing also was not about experience but also be a
part of practical to every student. For example, the faculty itself can invite ex worker and they
can show to all student how the true application of the system in the field. From this practical,
student will take opportunity to improve themselves and also can be a platform for them to be
well prepared to be a good and professional engineers. This was one of the way that we can have
a good engineer where the will fix any problem by themselves not just relying to the system and
let go the problem just like that when they cannot manage it. In other word, by practicing this
kind of way we could have a more responsible and independent engineer among the fresh
graduate. As we know, nowadays industrial need more engineer that have critical thinking and
can provide many brilliant idea to maximize the production.
From all the possible ways, the most effective was by the preparation of the student itself
to be an engineer. As we can see, engineer nowadays mostly depend on the senior workers at the
company and do not want to express themselves to solve the problems. In other worlds,
nowadays newcomer engineer tend to get help from others engineers rather than to solve the
problems by their own. From that, most company now were
