So Sew Easy

Date Night Wristlet


This cute and functional bag is designed to either be used alone as a
wristlet or to be carried in your larger purse as a wallet. It features 8 card
slots, a padded pocket for your phone, a zippered close and strap for your
wrist. It is large enough for your essentials yet is the perfect size to slip in to
your purse.

This bag is perfect for fat quarters or is a great scrap buster project.

Finished size, approx. 8 inches (width), by 5.5 inches (height) by .50 inch
(depth).

Interfacing

Materials needed Cut 2 fusible fleece 5.5” x 8”


Cut 1 fusible fleece 4.5” x 7.5”
Cut 4 light weight interfacing 4.5” x 8.5”
 Fabric – 2 or 3 coordinating fabrics Cut 1 light weight interfacing 2” x 12”
 Interfacing - fusible fleece and light weight fusible interfacing Cut 1 light weight interfacing 2” x 4”
 10” zipper or longer (don’t worry we will shorten it)
 Matching thread
 ½” swivel clip
TIP – label all of your fabric pieces as you cut them, so you can more
 ½” D ring or round ring
easily identify which is which later on.
 Zipper foot
 Hand sewing needle
 ¼” piecing foot (optional but very handy). Sometimes known as a
¼ inch quilting foot.

Fabric requirements and suggestions Directions
Seam allowances are 1/4 inch (0.5cm) throughout unless stated
otherwise.
 Outer fabric – Fat Quarter or fabric scraps
 Contrast fabric – Fat Quarter or fabric scraps Abbreviations used – RST – right sides together.
 Quilting cotton, home décor, brocade, linen. Satin could be nice for
the inside but is a bit more tricky to sew with because it’s slippery.
 You can mix and match your fabric to make this bag from 2 Fat
Let’s start to sew!
Interfacing will be fused to corresponding pieces as you go along.
Quarters with some left over.
Cut out your pattern pieces carefully and accurately. Keep them in the
VIDEO TUTORIAL order you cut them to make them easy to identify.

Center one 5.5” x 8” fusible fleece onto wrong side of one main panel. Fuse. Fold 10” x 8.5” pocket piece in half with wrong sides together and matching
Repeat with remaining main fabric piece and fleece. raw edges. After folding you should have a 5” high x 8.5” wide rectangle.
Press to form crease at top fold. Open up piece and center your 4.5” x 7.5”

Refold in half with wrong sides together and with fusible fleece sandwiched

Place topstitched piece on to the right side of one lining piece with bottom
Topstitch along the creased top folded edge using approximately 1/8” or raw edges matching.
¼”seam, whichever you are more comfortable with.
Pin along the bottom and sides.

Using a 1/8” narrow seam, baste divider to main panel piece. Set aside.

Fuse your 4 pieces of light weight interfacing to the 4 card pocket pieces.
These measure 4.5 inches by 8.5 inches.

Fold 3 of the card pocket pieces in half lengthwise WRONG SIDES

Take the 4th card pocket piece and fold it in half lengthwise with right sides
together.

Stitch along the length with a ¼ inch seam.

Trim seam allowance in half, the turn the tube right sides out and press.

Slide the hardware down to the stitched end and pinch it closed as shown.

Insert the zipper. Lay one of your main panel pieces right side up.

Position the zipper right side down on top of your main panel piece with
top raw edges aligned. The trimmed end is even with the side edge.
Trim the closed end of your zipper so that the zipper tape extends ½ inch
from the bottom stop. Position one lining piece right side down on top of the zipper, aligning the
three raw edges.

You will have a sandwich with zipper right side down in the middle of a
main panel piece and lining piece which are right sides together.

Snap on your zipper foot.

Beginning at one side, sew the zipper in place between the layers. Press the fabric away from the zipper in the center and top stitch along
each edge neatly and evenly.
Flip the main panel and lining pieces together with wrong sides together
and press both away from the zipper.

Repeat above steps with remaining main and lining panel pieces on other
side of zipper. (See the video if you need more clarification on how to sew
in and press the zipper.)

Open zipper a little over half way. Open your panels so that the right sides of the main panel pieces are
together and the right sides of the lining pieces are together with the

Clip corners and trim seams on both the main fabric and the lining if
desired.
Trim zipper and strap extender edge back to raw edges.
Reducing some of this fabric can make the bag less bulky in the seams and
help make it look more crisp when you turn the right side out.

Reach in through your opening and open zipper all the way.

Turn your pouch right side out through the lining opening and the open
zipper. Press the pouch.

Using a ladder stitch hand sew the bottom opening close. Or if you don’t
want to hand sew, close opening, pin and edge stitch across the bottom.
This will leave a “ridge” from your seam across the bottom inside of your
pouch.

Push lining to inside of pouch and use a blunt tool to press out the corners
to and bottom.

Press again if needed. Attach strap with swivel clip.
