Pressure Switch
1.0 Scope
2.1 Dead Weight Tester / Pressure Test Gauge with a valid certificate of calibration traceable
to international standard in accordance with an industrial code or a regulation shall be
used as a standard for calibration.
2.2 The Reference Standard shall be kept under controlled environmental conditions e.g.
dust free environment and Lab temperature 22°C ± 3°C.Lab Humidity 60%RH ± 20%RH.
3.1 The details of Pressure Switch received for calibration shall be entered in the Calibration
Job Form (Form: Call/001).
3.2 The Pressure Switch shall be inspected and marked () in relevant block of equipment's
primary inspection section of Calibration Data Sheet (Form: Call/013).
4.1 Obtain a required actuating pressure by means of the Dead Weight Tester or a variable
air supply or a hand operated air pump.
4.2 Connect a circuit tester to output terminals.
4.3 Where using an air supply or a hand operated air pump the actuating pressure shall be
connected to the instrument’s process connection via a tee piece.
4.4 One leg of the tee connected to the actuating pressure shall have block valve and vent
valve. The other leg of the tee shall be connected to a pressure test gauge.
4.5 With opening the block valve and closing the vent valve apply an actuating pressure of
approximately full range. Close block valve and check system for leaks. When no fall off
pressure is observed i.e. no leaks proceed as follow.
4.6 Increase the actuating pressure up to the setting pressure (for high or high-high
alarm/trip) or the resetting pressure (for low or low-low alarm/trip) and record the reaction
of the switch at the setting / resetting pressure using the circuit tester. Decrease

actuating pressure down to the resetting pressure (for high or high-high alarm/trip or
setting pressure (for low or low-low alarm/trip), and record the reaction or the witch at the
resetting / setting pressures.
4.7 Where necessary (step 5) shall be repeated; and appropriate adjustment shall be made
until the required set / reset points are obtained considering the individual dead-band.
4.8 Set and reset pressure of Pressure Switch shall be recorded in observed value column
against the standard readings in set value column of Calibration Data Sheet (Form:
Call/013).
4.9 The relevant section of Calibration Data Sheet (Form: Call/013) shall be marked.
4.10 Calibration Certificate (Form: Call/002) shall be issued for calibrated Pressure Switch as
per Calibration Data Sheet Record (Form: Call/013).
4.11 A Calibration Sticker (Form: Call/003) containing following information shall be affixed
on the calibrated Pressure Switch.
a) Item code
b) Calibrated on
c) Next calibration date
All the latest formats are documented in Master List of Document / Record and placed in CQF
file for reference.
All the latest Standard Calibration Procedures (SCP) are controlled and issued to concerned
Calibration Engineers.
