Folded Peyote Earrings

The earrings are worked using both Peyote and Herringbone stitch.
This tutorial consists of two colours of Delicas. You can of course use
three colours, one colour on the inside and another on the outside
of the earring for contrast. The earrings can be left plain or
embellished with crystals/pearls etc.

Materials:
• 2 or 3 colours of 11/0 Delicas.
• Fireline
• Needle
• 2 x Jump Rings
• 2 x Earring Hooks

Instructions:
1. Using a good armlength of Fireline add 4 x Colour A beads
for the outside edge onto the needle.

2. Pass thread through the beads twice to form into a secure


circle.

3. Pass the needle through two more beads and pull into a
square shape.

4. Add 4 x 11/0 Delicas of Colour B, 4 x 11/0 Delicas of Colour


A, and 4 x 11/0 Delicas of Colour B.
5. Pass the needle down through the opposite bead.

6. It should look like this.

7. Pass the needle up through the 2 Colour A Delicas.


8. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour A Delica.

9. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

10. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

11. Using Herringbone stitch, add 2 x Colour A Delicas.

12. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

13. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

14. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour A Delica.

15. Squash the sides together to make it flat.

16. Step up.

17. Repeat Steps 8-16 until you have 12 rows on this leg.

Although these steps have been photographed always in the


upright position, your work can be flipped from step 12 and
again where appropriate.

18. It is now time to change direction. These will become the


points at the top and bottom of the earrings.

Step 1 - Weave your thread Back up to the top right-hand


side of the earring.

21. Step 4 – Pass the needle down through the top left-hand
side Colour A Delica.

22. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour A Delica.

23. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

24. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

25. Using Herringbone stitch, add 2 x Colour A Delicas.

26. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

27. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour B Delica.

28. Using Peyote stitch, add 1 x Colour A Delica.

29. Flip your work and Step Up.

30. Repeat Steps 8-16 until you have 25 rows on this leg.

31. Repeat Steps 18-29.

32. Repeat Steps 8-16 until you have 13 rows on this leg.

It is probably a good idea to weave in your tail thread and


snip off at this point as it can get in the way when zipping up.

Zipping Up
Side 1
1. Twist your last leg into position and ensure that the working
thread is coming out of the short side and top layer ready to
zip up with the opposite leg.

2. Pass the needle through the opposite Colour A Delica on the


bottom layer.

Don’t worry about tightening at this point. Leave that until


you have passed through all the beads on that side.

3. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

4. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

5. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

6. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

7. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

8. Pass the needle through the last bead on the opposite side.

9. Gently pull the threads evenly and then tighten hard


ensuring all the beads click into place.

Side 2
1. Flip your work so the working thread is on the right. Pass the
needle through the first bead on the bottom layer.

2. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

3. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

4. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

5. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

6. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

7. Pass the needle through the next bead on the opposite side.

8. Pass the needle through the last bead on the opposite side.

9. Gently pull the threads evenly and then tighten hard


ensuring all the beads click into place.

10. Weave through your working thread through any of the


beads that need a little more tightening. Snip off.

11. Decide on which way up you want your earring.

Insert a Jump Ring at the top.

Add on an Earring Hook and close the Jump Ring.

12. Repeat all the instructions for Earring number two.
