Airbus A320 Hydraulic System Description: Article

This document provides a description of the hydraulic system used on Airbus A320 aircraft. It describes that the A320 has three independent hydraulic systems - green, yellow, and blue. The green and yellow systems are powered by engine-driven pumps, while the blue system is powered by an electric pump. It also details the components that make up each system like pumps, valves, and reservoirs. A power transfer unit allows the green and yellow systems to pressurize each other if one of the pumps fails. All hydraulic systems maintain a constant pressure to operate aircraft controls and services. Component status is displayed on the ECAM hydraulic page and controlled via the overhead panel.

A hydraulic drive system is a quasi-hydrostatic drive or trans-
associated pushbutton switch for abnormal operations. Each
mission system that uses pressurized hydraulic fluid to power
hydraulic engine pump is controlled by a pushbutton siwtch
hydraulic machinery. The term hydrostatic refers to the trans-

is controlled by a pushbutton siwtch. The PTU is controlled

AIRBUS CBT TRAINING-PILOT STORIES
The green and yellow hydraulic systems are each pressurized
by an engine driven pump. The yellow hydraulic system can
also be pressurized by an electric pump. A Power Transfer
Unit (PTU) enables the green system to be pressurized by the
yellow system and vice versa. The PTU is designed to power
a hydraulic system in case of pump failure. It is not designed
to be used when the hydraulic system has a fault, such as an
overheat, low reservoir or low air pressure. In addition, the
PTU is inhibited from operating: 1-When the parking brake
is ON and only one ENG MASTER switch is ON 2-When
tha parking brake is OFF, nose wheel is deactivated, and only
one ENG MASTER switch is ON 3-When the cargo doors are
being operated 4-When the PTU Switch is off
Fire shut off valves are located between the reservoirs and
the engine driven pumps. The BLUE haydraulic system is
pressurized by an electric pump.In an emergency, the BLUE
system can be pressurized by the Ram Air Turbine: RAT Each
hydraulic system delivers a constant pressure to the users.

the ECAM HYD page. The controls for the components we
have introduced are located on the overhead hydraulic con-
