The Solutions

1 The best move is 1.Qa3 followed by b3, opening the Queenside.

2 The correct move is 10.axb3! opening the a-file, with the plan b4-b5-Nb3-Nc5
and White is slightly better.

3 With 12…Nxd4 13.Qxb7 Nc5! 14.Qc7 Nxe2+ 15.Kh1 Bxb2 winning a pawn.

4 12.Nb1! White goes after the outpost on b5 with Nb1-a3-b5.

5 18.Bxa6! Rxa6 19.b5! and the protected, passed pawn gives White the
advantage.

6 7.d5? is a mistake because of 7…Nxd5! 8.Qxd5 Bxb2.

7 The best move is 8.Nbd2! and if Qxb2?! 9.Nc4! Qb4 10.c3! Qb5 (Qxc3 11.Rc1
Qb4 12.Rb1 Qc3 13.Rb3 wins the Queen) 11.Nxd6 and White is better.

8 The best plan is 19.Nb5! g4 20.c5! opening the diagonal for the h2 bishop and
pressing on the Queenside.

9 There are several good moves like b4 or Qc2, but the best is 12.Nb5! with the
idea of c5! giving advantage to white.

10 11.b4! preparing the c5 break.

11 With the thematic idea of c5! opening the c-file and b8-h2 diagonal.

12 18.Qa5! attacking both c7 and a7.

13 25.Be5! Bxe5 26.dxe5 Qxe5 27.fxe4 dxe4 28.Bxh5 is better for white.

14 Our usual break is c5 but here 1.d5! is to be preferred, preventing Black from
playing d5 and defending the weak e4 pawn.

15 19.c6! b6 20.Qa4 Qe6 21.Qb3 and White has the edge.
