We are living in an Information Age where technology and knowledge bases are
advancing at an explosive rate. According to Schilling, at an average, the magnitude human
knowledge is now doubling every 13 months at the current rate. The over-whelming effects
of this knowledge are all around us as cutting edge technology is rendered obsolete in the
blink of an eye due to further advancements. It would be illogical to believe that we should
abandon technology, because in many cases, it will be the difference for a better tomorrow.
As a result of the pursuit of better quality of life, some dependence on technology is
unavoidable because we would all like to have clean running water, healthy diet, and
protection from terrible diseases, provision of power and different electronic tools for our
businesses as well as other material comforts and amenities in our lives.
Technology especially in the face of rapidly increasing population helps us in utilizing
the Earth’s resources more efficiently. It is due to technology that human race is surviving
the unprecedented population expansion and without it, the human race would have died out
long ago in a global hunger Armageddon. But on the other hand there are negative effects of
technology lingering in our lives. By neglecting basic human and mammalian instincts like
socializing, family life and physical exertion, we have become artificial and hollow.
Although we are reaping benefits, we are losing the little of the precious humanity left in our
lives due to over-indulgence.
In conclusion, technology has affected our lives deeply. We simply cannot imagine
living without it. It has increased our lifespan and quality of living. It has brought us closer
to each other in certain ways and drifted away in others. Without it, our lives would have
been simpler, harder, poorer, isolated, unimaginative, disconnected and dangerous.

Technology and Students: The Good and the Bad
Using technologies can be both beneficial and harmful to the one who uses it.
Educational Opportunities the amount of information literally at your fingertips is amazing! If
a child is curious about anything, there is a wealth of information online. They can see animals
in their natural habitats with web cams and even watch things happening at NASA – live! Such
access can really feed a love of learning. Connections, technology allows students to connect
with friends and family who live far away. Programs like Skype can allow “face to face” visits
with anyone from anywhere in the world. Reading devices like e-readers and tablets have made
books easy to bring anywhere! The ability to carry a virtual library with you certainly lines up
on the “good” side of the issue.
However, if not being carefully used may results to the following: Graphic Violence,
watching and virtually participating in graphic violence is not healthy for a child’s developing
mind and psyche. Regarding children and violent gaming, the American Academy of
Adolescent and Child Psychiatry says, “Studies of children exposed to violence have shown that
they can become: “immune” or numb to the horror of violence, imitate the violence they see, and
show more aggressive behavior with greater exposure to violence.” Too much screen time,
spending excessive time in front of a screen is detrimental to a child’s health and well-being,
according to many pediatric experts. The American Academy of Pediatrics determined that
students who spend more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen (TV or computer) are more
likely to be obese, have irregular sleep, and have behavioral problems and poor academic
performance. Isolation, as “connected” as we are in our tech-savvy society, sometimes it seems
the connections are shallow and void of real relationship. Sometimes it seems we are each
wrapped up in our own electronic world, a culture of cocoons. Cyber Danger, being flippant
about personal information and technology can mean someone knowing exactly where your child
is and what they are doing.
Truth is technology is not only here to stay but will likely grow in prevalence. This calls
for taking a balanced approach with our students.

The social ecosystem is steadily growing, which means marketers must be more strategic
than ever when engaging with consumers across social networks and devices. As consumers
traverse from Facebook to Twitter to Pinterest and Instagram, content is digested differently.
Here are several paths to success when it comes to choosing a social network that will
perform best with your audience on mobile. Pinterest, this social platform is experiencing
rapid growth with a largely female user-base (70 percent), according to Nielsen research,
while, twitter’s user base is much more diverse and text oriented. The micro-blogging site is
excellent for real-time engagement with consumers. On twitter, you can share the latest news
in a quick snapshot message, allowing information to be shared instantly while offering
fodder for thought-provoking conversations. For facebook, Mark Zuckerberg's company
currently offers the most substantial and diverse reach. It is well suited for rich content
accompanied by images or videos. However, instagram is the new kid on the block in many
aspects. It is an internet-based photo-sharing application and service that allows users to
simply capture and share the world’s moments either publicly or privately. Additionally,
