Lesson 1
Project Plan

ALWAYS PLAN

CREATIVITY IS THE HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT OF THE BRAINS OF MAN

Have you tried preparing a plan before working on your project? What is the outcome
of your project? Before starting any project, there must be a plan. Planning saves times,

3
effort and money. Wastage is likewise prevented if a plan is made before actually working
on the project. A plan visualizes the possible steps or processes involved in the project, the
materials needed and the cost of the project as well as the projected outcome. Below are
the parts of a project plan.

Parts of a Project Plan and Their Definitions

1. Name of the project – This refers to the end-product or result of the activity.
2. Objectives – These are the goal you want to achieve. The principles, skills and values
that should be learned in the project are all incorporated in the objectives.
3. Design of the project – This part of the project plan includes illustrations, sketches or
drawings of the project to be made. Specifications in the project such as color, size, style
etc. are also indicated.
4. Bill of Materials – This is an itemized listing of materials and supplies needed to complete
the project. Quantity, total cost, and tools and equipment needed to complete the project
are also indicated.
5. Procedure – This refers to the process to be followed in completing the project.

Self-check:

Identify what is described in each statement.

_______ 1. This refers to the process to be followed.
_______ 2. This includes the illustrations and sketches of the project to be made.
_______ 3. This is an itemized list of materials.
_______ 4. This refers to the result of the activity.
_______ 5. This refers to the goals you want to achieve.

Lesson 2
Preparing a Project Plan

Now that you learned the parts of a project plan, you are now ready to decide on what
project to work on. But first, here’s a sample project plan. Just follow carefully the prepared
plan before actually working on the project.

The most used material in project making is bamboo. Different unique styles and
designs are applied in its construction. Below is a sample project plan, using bamboo as
material.

I. Name of the project: Veneered bamboo tray

II. Objective: To make a veneered bamboo tray

V. Procedure

1. Secure the materials needed.

2. Measure and cut the plywood with the desired dimension for the base.
3. Cut and split the bamboo internodes.
4. Dry the split bamboo under the sun.
5. Make a metre box at 60 degrees angle.
6. Reduce the thickness of the bamboo split to approximately 1/8” thick.
7. Plane one side of the bamboo split.
8. Cut the desired diamond pieces accurately.
9. Test squareness by putting together the cut diamonds.
10. If well fit, continue cutting the diamond shape.
11. Identify the center of the plywood by drawing a line connecting the two opposite
corners. The intersection is their considered center where you can begin to glue
the diamond cuts.
12. Continue gluing the diamonds shapes until the whole surface is covered.
13. Set aside dying for at least twenty-four hours.

2. Check the squareness of the diamond cut first before cutting all the necessary
pieces needed for the tray.
3. Don’t assemble or cut diamonds if the bamboo is still green, for it will shrink.
4. Avoid applying lacquer very thickly for the finish will crack in the long run.
5. Make pilot holes before driving the brad nails along the sidings.

Activity 1

1. Make a project plan using bamboo as material.

2. Indicate the different parts of the project plan.
