Strand: 1 Matter and The Environment Standard: F1.2

This lesson plan is for an 8th grade English communication class on substances and matter. It is 2 hours long and focuses on classifying matter into different groups based on their properties. Students will learn about the arrangement of molecules in different states of matter and the importance of matter properties. Learning activities include identifying shapes of matter, classifying matter into groups, explaining differences in molecular arrangement between states, and comparing how each state evaporates differently. Students will write about events they witnessed and tell stories. Assessment includes a group discussion and fill-in-the-blank quiz.

Key Concept: molecules, bonds, closely packed, spacious.

Objectives:

Knowledge (K):

1. Students will be able to talk about shapes matter

2. Students should talk about matter properties.

Process (P):
 1. Student should be able to understand the nature of arrangement

of molecules in different states of matter.

 2. To understand the importance of matter properties.

Attribute (Affective):

1. Students should be able to think creatively.

2. Students should have avidity for learning

Learning Activities:

Warm up:

The students will be shown different shapes of matter and shy will be

asked to differentiate between them.

Presentation:

1. After warm up activities, the teacher will explain and the students will do

activity in their books

2. The students will be asked to classify some matter in different groups

based on their properties.

Practice:

1. The students will explain why each matter has different arrangement.

2. They will also carry out a comparison as to why each state of matter

evaporates differently.

Production:

1. The students will be able to write about an even that they witnessed.

2. Give account of a story source.

Wrap Up: The teacher will again go over the vocabulary. The students

along with the teacher will sing along to a song on inventions. Then the
