    Learning activity 1

    Evidence: The time is now

    This evidence is divided into two parts: A composition and an audio file. Read the
    instructions below and make sure you complete both tasks.

    A. Answer the questions below. Use the examples as models of the grammar and
    vocabulary you have to use.

    1. Why didn’t you study English before? (List at least 5 reasons in a


    composition.)

    Example:

    One of the reasons why I didn’t study English before it is because I thought it
    was too difficult. I didn’t understand my English teacher at school and that
    was frustrating.
    SOLUTION:

    I did not study English before because I thought it was a difficult


    language, in addition to this in my university, they taught small English
    classes and with this, I was satisfied. On the other hand, when I left the
    university, I realized that I needed English significantly; but for lack of
    money, I could not do a face-to-face course.

    If I had get a job, I would study English. Finally, another reason is that in
    Bogota there is no English institute that is economical and of quality.

    Reasons:

    *I thought it was a difficult language.

    *In my university, they taught small English classes and with this, I was
    satisfied.

    *Lack of money.

    * Lack of work.

    * There is no economic and quality institute.

    2. How different would things be if you had learned English before? (Name and
    explain at least 5 things.)

    Example:

    If I had learned English some years ago I would have accepted a job a
    multinational company offered me five years ago. One of the requirements
    was to speak English and my level back then was very low.
    SOLUTION:

    If I had learned English a long time ago, I would have a job with
    excellent pay. Currently, many companies have bilingual vacancies, in
    fact, they offer excellent opportunities. On the other hand, if I had
    learned English, I would not have been afraid to move to London for
    months, because it is a place that I admire; if I had learned English, I
    would have been able to communicate easily with foreigners, it would
    be good to know cultures of other countries.

    If I knew English, I would have known the love of my life in the United
    States, I love this country and I think that there, I would have a good
    future; finally If I had studied English, I would have liked to be a national
    police, because this is one of the requirements and besides it is one of
    my dreams.

    B. Record an audio file of yourself answering the following questions. Use the
    examples as models of the grammar and vocabulary you have to use.

    1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)

    Example:

    I’m studying English because I finally decided that if I want to improve my


    professional profile becoming bilingual is essential.

    SOLUTION (AUDIO):

    1. I am studying English because, currently it is an indispensable language


    everywhere; English makes my life easier, and I think it is a language that
    complement.
    2. I am studying English because I want to travel to London without fear. I want
    to live there for a good time.
    3. I am studying English because I want to get a good job in a multinational; I
    want to get a good salary.
    4. I am studying English because I want to contribute with my personal and
    professional formation; I want my resume to be attractive.
    2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

    Example:

    Being competent in English is going to increase the opportunities of landing a more


    satisfying and better-paid job. We live in an international open market and English
    is the most important language.

    SOLUTION (AUDIO):

    Knowing English will give me many opportunities in life, a good job, a foreign love,
    knowledge, status, good manners, learning new cultures. Travel to many countries
    because English is universal, besides to get a stable job and have a good future.

    When you finish your work, send the files to your instructor through the platform as
    follows:
