TEAS
INTRODUCTION
What is tea?
Tea is a drink made from either tea leaves of the Camellia sinensis
plant or various herbs when boiling water is added. It is grown
throughout the world.
"True tea” vs. Herbal Tea
Herbal teas are herbs blended together to create unique flavors
or for desired health benefits. They are caffeine free.
"True teas" are teas made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis
plant. The caffeine content of these teas are is based on how they
are prepared.
Both teas can provide health benefits and taste great! Benefits
vary depending on the type of tea, but most have antioxidants
which help fight off free radicals.
History of Tea
Tea was first discovered in China in 2737 BC when leaves from a
tea tree drifted into a pot of boiling water in the garden. Tea was
mainly used for its medicinal properties. Tea became widespread
throughout the world when traders and explorers learned about
the tradition. Today, tea is a popular beverage that is served and
made all over the world.
Storage and Preparation for Tea
Store in airtight containers, away from light, moisture, heat, and
other odors. Tea looses flavor quickly when exposed to air.
Prepare tea based on package directions. There are different
brewing temperatures and steeping time for each type of tea.
When purchasing pre-made teas, look for unsweetened options.
This way you can control level of sweetness.
