Module Code and Title: Programme: Credit: Module Tutor: General Objectives
This module will introduce various standards and unit systems used in measurements; various
analog & digital instruments used for measurement of various electrical quantities and
measurements applicable in instrumentation engineering.
Learning outcomes:
On completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Explain the working principles of various measuring instruments.
2. Appraise the organization of instrumentation systems including the key elements.
3. Analyze uncertainties of the measuring instruments and measurement system.
4. Use ammeters, voltmeters and wattmeter to measure current, voltage and power.
5. Use bridges for measuring unknown inductance, capacitance, resistance, mutual
inductance and frequency.
6. Analyse the construction and working principle of different types of ammeters,
wattmeters, energy meters, maximum demand indicator and power factor meter.
7. Interpret the measured electrical parameters.
8. Differentiate different transducers and apply them for measuring a particular physical
parameter
9. Use data loggers for recording time series data.
