1. 40th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit to be held in Saudi
Arabia on 10 Dec 2019
Annual meeting of Gulf states in Riyadh on December 10 to
discuss political issues and review regional developments.
The GCC members (6) are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi
Arabia and the UAE.

2. India's lower House of Parliament (Lok Sabha) is debating the


controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), which will
grant citizenship to religious minorities from neighbouring
countries, with legal experts saying it violates the country's
secular constitution

The bill, which seeks to amend the 1955 citizenship law, aims to
give citizenship to "persecuted" minorities - Hindus, Sikhs,
Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians - from Bangladesh,
Afghanistan and Pakistan, but excludes Muslims.

After it is passed by the lower chamber of India's parliament,


the bill will go to the upper House, where the ruling Hindu
nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lacks a majority.

Opposition parties say the bill is discriminatory as it singles out


Muslims in an officially secular nation of 1.3 billion people.
Muslims form nearly 15 percent of the population.

3. Britons will head to the polls on Thursday, December 12 for a


snap general election, which is hoped to end the
country's Brexit impasse.

Kosovo's government has said it will boycott next week's Nobel


Prize ceremony in Sweden to protest against the literature award
being given to Peter Handke, an Austrian author criticised for his
vocal support for Serb forces in the 1990s wars in former
Yugoslavia.
