There are several types of specializations in physical therapy such as cardiopulmonary and
pulmonary rehabilitation, geriatric, orthopaedic, paediatric, integumentary, sports, gynaecologic
and urologic, lymphatic drainage, and aesthetic physical therapy.
Physical therapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and
movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention,
rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional, and social well being. It
involves the interaction between physical therapist (PT), patients/clients, other health
professionals, families, care givers, and communities in a process where movement potential is
assessed and goals are agreed upon, using knowledge and skills unique to physical therapists.
Physical therapy is performed by either a physical therapist (PT) or an assistant (PTA) acting
under their direction.

level of a body system or organ. The official World Health Organization definition for this term is

What are your expectations and what are you curious about Physical Therapy?
I am expecting that this health care immersion will provide us, the Special Health
Science High School, the opportunity to learn and understand the concepts and principles in this
field. I am also hoping that our instructor/s will be approachable and amenable enough to
entertain our questions. I am also interested to know the possible job opportunities in this field
which I know will greatly help us in choosing our health care profession in the near future. By
the end of the sessions, I am looking forward that we will be more literate in this profession in
both knowledge and skills.
