Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Kiosk is a small structure in a public area that provides and displays


information and even advertisements which often incorporates an
interactive display screen. These screen kiosks are common near the
entrance of shopping malls and airports. Kiosk are programmed to be
user-interactive and user-friendly. The Information Kiosk for ABE Manila
will serve as a guide for the students, staffs, and visitors of the school. It
would allow the user to be independent and have access to information
faster and easier. This Kiosk would not only include guide maps but also
the necessary information that a user needs to know about the school.

Such kiosks typically includes a computer system loaded with


software that is housed in protected case, although an Self-Service kiosks
(SSK) can also be computer on the a table or desk in an accessible area
for students to use. Some other pro points for Self-Service application is
that students doesn't need to be computer savvy merely because kiosks
doesn’t require any particular knowledge or background in computers to
use it. Computer application doesn't not misunderstand an order, unlike o
real person where language can be aim. And students meets what they
exactly need, and most of all control is being put to the hands of the
students based on what they favor. If there are point for the students it also
has for the people who made it. One of which is that kiosks provides more
productive for it save time and effort that can innovate their service to their
students.

Kiosk also has a good return of investment for more products are
being sold in a short span of time which means more profit. Not only
business are transaction Self-Service kiosks being used, also for
information sharing and dissemination. Through the user interfacing and
information display that are being used in Self-Service kiosks (SSK) it is
need a very effective channel of information.

Currently, majority of people use computers for business, education and


entertainment through laptops, desktop computers and mobile phones. If
we take a careful look at section of people who can interact with these
computers, then we find computers have always been a productive tool for
literate people with at least a minimum ability to read and understand.
These devices have been a powerful source of information and knowledge.
If one is using such devices then one must be, at minimum, able to read
the text in the language in use. Such a restriction renders millions of
people, who are non-literate or semi-literate, unable to access world of
information that could be of their importance. Information Kiosk is a step
towards making the information available to people irrespective of their
literary skills.

Background of the study

Information kiosk had been widely used by many establishment now a


day. Ranging from private to public business or government establishment
and services. An information Kiosk dispenses free information in the form
of maps pamphlets and other literature, and advice offered by an attendant.
It is a computer terminal that often student custom kiosks software
designed to function flawlessly while preventing it from a computer network.
Some computer kiosk provide a free, information public service while
others serve a commercial purpose. Touch screens, trackballs, computer
keyboard, and push buttons are all typical input devices for interactive
computer kiosk.

The technology used in interactive kiosk is basically the same as that


used in computer. Touch screen kiosk are mainly operated with the help of
a control unit and touch the area of the screen to navigate the custom built
show the touch screen operation of the kiosk makes the functioning very
simple and user friendly. when the kiosk are not in use they can act as a
screen saver to serve as an advertising tools. Kiosk have a wide range of
application and can be seen in mall airports and in government offices. A
few of the different service provide by a kiosk are accessing live newsroom
with the very latest news and information, accessing popular galleries with
stills and video clips, and information. Kiosk can be used for an infinite
number of application, including location, customer service, internet
access. Kiosk had been popular because of its long lasting steel
construction of the kiosk help it to be rugged and is suitable for placing it in
any environment.

Statement of the problem

ABE Internatinal Business College are still Lack of sense of direction. And
Inconvenience in bringing papers map to search for specific location. also Waste of
time in looking for a place that wasn't familiar. Then Wrong information on the
direction that was given by the people being asked. This situation needs solution to
address the problem.

It is hard for them to identify the location where they go like visitors not
always around to our school.

Objective of the study


The general objective of the proposed study is to implement and maintain a
Student Information kiosk for ABE Manila Campus to be more functional,
reliable, usable, efficient, maintainable and more secured student
information kiosk. The system would be able to help the acting Registrar
reduce her tasks especially on the delivery of enrolment procedures and
the keeping of student records. Thus, eliminate the problems of the current
manual system.

Hypothesis
Not all services can be sold through kiosks; only information about these services can be given Currently,
most applications of kiosks center to the provision of information as a support to the decision process.
Transacting on line takes more time and utilizes the facility for longer, in the students and visitors
environment the primary purpose is to enhance service

Significance of the study


This study will be significant promoting a good information kiosk. This
study will be beneficial to the students and visitors whose visiting the school of
ABE international business college – Manila branch. And to inform all students
and visitors about that so that they will guide to their direction to go.

Scope and limitation of the study

The scope of our study proposed entitled information kiosk for


ABE Manila is made to help where students and visitors can find the
location they go. who is visiting the school daily and to students did not
know. It helps to provide easy way to find where they go.

The limitation of our is for map only of the students that did not know
where they go and strange visitor who’s visiting the school and does not
know the location they want go. The information that the system can know
the location for the missing purpose.

stations and airport for check-ins and have helped the authorities in
simplifying the process and cutting down the overhead cost. You can
display useful information about the offerings by retail stores and earn
revenue for yourself.

When it comes to front desk operation of hotel and revolutionizes the use of

advantageous. If we create a Self-Service information Kiosk it will help in
advancement and it will be very advantageous to students.

This study is made to promote and introduce to Adamson university


high school and advancement of having a computer based voting and
information Kiosk system. It is a normalized database system that records
the information of the students . It is a kiosk system that would be
interesting and advantageous for both faculties and students.

Chapter 3

METHODOLOGY AND DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS


The methodology used in designing through a questionnaire we aimed at
understanding the intended use of the information kiosks in addition to their
functionalities. Two questionnaires were designed, one for the students
and one for visitors. Also, there would be two versions of each
questionnaire in English , as these is the languages we use.

Research Design:

The study aimed to assess the extent of compliance of the student


information kiosk of ABE Manila campus. Thus, the study used the
descriptive-evaluation research design. This method involves the collection
of data through survey questionnaire and observations in order to test
assumptions or to answer questions concerning current status of the
subject of study. The descriptive-evaluation design was deemed suitable
for the study because it involved a comprehensive analysis of the system’s
input, process and output component.

Research locale
The study will be conducted in ABE Manila the respondents will be senior
high and college students. The researchers also gathered respondents
residing in ABE manila these respondents will be have a survey
questionnaire.

Population and sample


For some studies, the population may be small enough to warrant the
inclusion of all of them in the study. But a study may entail a large
population which cannot all be studied. That portion of the population that
is studied is called a sample of the population.

The sample of the population of this study stood at 50 senior high and 50
college gave a total of 100 respondents.

Research Procedure
The questionnaire were distributed in ABE Manila there 3 researcher go to
senior high school and 2 college researcher to give the questionnaire were
given to them and all of it was answered. This amount of the given
questionnaire is enough to determine the views of the student regarding the
information kiosk in ABE Manila..

Research instrument
In gathering the data relevant to the study. The researcher used
structured questionnaire as a survey instrument to elicit the pertinent
information from the respondents..

Statistical treatment of data


Statistical treatment in genre analysis answer the respondents
response to the research. It includes (10) ten constructed questions in a
survey form the researchers uses quantitative analysis. Thus involves the
techniques by which researchers convert the answer of one hundred (100)
respondents. To the research quantitative survey to numerical forms and
subject to statistical treatment. The researcher used percentage and
frequency.
