APPLICATIONS
The NAMUR (DIN 19234) proximity switches are electronic sensors whose absorbed current varies in the presence of
metallic objects.
The reduced dimensions, the low values of voltage, current and impedance (unaffected by overvoltage and excessive
current from inductive or capacitive sources), allows them to be used in various applications in both intrinsically safe and
normal areas.
Applications in intrinsically safe areas (explosive atmospheres). *
The sensor must be used with an intrinsically safe relay or an equivalent static input suitable for intrinsically safe appli-
cations.
Standard applications (normal atmospheres).
The sensor must be used with AECO supply and amplifier units ALNC, ALN2 or similar.

SELECTION OF RING SENSOR
Selection should be made based on the minimum hole diameter required.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION
In this way the sensitivity adjustment can be made within normal parameters and need not be pushed to the maximum
risking the proper functioning of the unit. Fig. 1 Fig. 2
USE WITH A DELAYED AMPLIFIERS B
S A
All types of ring sensor can work in combination with a delayed amplifier of the programmable ALTP series or ALNC series
which ensures the sensing of small objects in rapid movement. ≥S ≥S ≥S
SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT
After having followed the instructions regarding the choice of the most suitable unit it is recommended that the sensiti-
vity adjustment be carried out when the sensor is installed in the final position taking into account how much metal mass
is close by which could alter its functioning. The sensitivity increases turning the trimmer clockwise.
EFFECTS OF METAL IN THE CLOSE VICINITY
If a moving metal part is close to the sensing area the functioning can be disturbed.
In order to avoid this, install the units some distance from metallic objects. Ensure that this does not interfere with the
functioning. When applying to a metal surface make sure not to apply too close to ring hole otherwise sensor may not-
function correctly. Model SIA05 SIA12 SIA15 SIA22 SIA30 SIA44 SIA63 SIA100
USE OF SENSOR
A distance equal to the width of the sensor should be left between each object that passes through the sensor. If more A (Fig. 1) mm 25 30 30 60 60 300 300 600

SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT
After having followed the instructions regarding to the choice of the most suit-
able unit it is recommended that the sensitivity adjustment be carried out
when the sensor is installed in the final position taking into account how much
metal mass is close by which could alter its functioning. The sensitivity increas-
es turning the trimmer clockwise and reduces by turning it anti-clockwise.
USE OF SENSOR
A distance equal to the width of the sensor should be left between each object
that passes through the sensor. If more than one sensor is to be installed in
close vicinity, the minimum distance indicated between sensors should be
observed.

TYPES
FT18M-CFR WITH FIBERS FOR DIRECT REFLECTION
In this type of function the red light emitter and
receiver are contained in one fiber (MULTI CORED)
or side by side (DOUBLE CORED).
The sensing is obtained by the reflection of the rays
of the object to be detected. The parameters that
influence the sensing distance are mainly the colour,
the reflective or the roughness of the surface to be
sensed.
The maximum sensing distances mentioned in the
technical characteristics refer to results obtained with
a piece of matt white paper dimension 10 x 10 cm. DIRECT REFLECTION Checking the missing Checking the form

WORKING PRINCIPLE =
C R MOV
Magnetic proximity switches are made of reed contacts whose thin plates, trap-

ped in a glass bulb together with inerted gas, are easily influenced by magnetic C
fields that create magnetic induction, opposite polarization. Magnetic attraction
force makes thin plates flex and touch each other causing an electrical contact. = D
The plate’s surface has been treated with a special material particularly suitable C R
for low current or high inductive circuits. Magnetic sensors compared to tradi-
tional mechanical switches have the following advantage:
- Contacts are well protected against dust, oxidization and corrosion thanks to WORKING EXAMPLE

PROXY TESTER
DESCRIPTION
Proxy Tester is a portable instrument created to satisfy the needs of
both installers as well as retailers. It makes it possible to control cor-
rect functioning of any D.C. sensor (2-3-4 wires and Namur) or mag-
netic sensor even when lacking expensive sophisticated instrumenta-
tion (stable power generators, oscilloscopes etc.). This enables a quick
check of sensor’s efficiency without having to be a specialised techni-
cian. Consequently this reduces manitenance and repair time in an
industrial automation plant where malfunction of sensor is often diffi-
cult to identify.
Proxy Tester is powered by a battery and has a battery level indicator.

TYPE CRTP
This device is composed of a central electronic unit inside a plastic undecal
insertable housing and a detecting sensor that works according to inuctive,
capacitive or photoelectric principles in NAMUR-NPN-PNP versions. Utilisation
of sensors with various size and shapes permits CRTP to be useful in any
detecting of different space and distances which makes its utilisation very vast.
TYPE CRT30
It’s a rotation control device with the shape of a cylindrical threaded metallic same device.

APPLICATIONS
Capacitive level controls are widely used where it is necessary to control with
a good safety margin of intervention the level of substances both liquid and
solid which may not be conductive.
They are particularly used in silos for cereals, foodstuffs, seeds, biscuit plants
and the food industry in general.
They are also used in the transport, dosing, stocking and handling of plastic
materials, petrochemical products, in foundries and cement factories.
The field of use is vast and is practically anywhere where it is necessary to con-
trol the level inside tanks which contain many types of different material.
SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT
MAX MIN
After having installed the probe, if the tank is not conductive, carry out the MAX
earthing of the probe by connecting to the connector placed on the probe. In
order to calibrate the sensitivity the adjustment potentiometer should be
adjusted with the probe free from material until the point at which the relay
switches is found and this should be noted on the potentimeter. The probe
should then be immersed in the material to be controlled and the poten-
tiometer should be adjusted once again until the relay switches, once again
note the position. As a last operation place the position of the potentiometer MIN
in the mid position between the two markings. Both the SC model with incor-
porated power supply and the SCD model with separate power supply are
supplied with a min/max level security switch which can be positioned
depending on the control function that is to be carried out.
LIMITATIONS
When using capacitive probes is should be borne in mind that large deposits The value of the dielectric constant of the material must not be too low, it must

MOUNTING
The unit is placed on the external wall of the container fixing it by means of
the 6 hole flange.
The material must be able to move freely around the paddle and this must not
be installed in the jet of material.
In order to avoid this it may be necessary to install deflectors above the unit
when the mass of the material is high.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS
1) DELAY
The range of delay is from 0,03 seconds and 512 seconds (see table A) dis-
tribuited on 9 selectable scales via a dip switch mounted on the front. The
selected scale can be adjusted by means of a potentiometer on a graduated
scale from 0,05 to 1. It is possible by summing the two scales to obtain full
scale values which are different to the standard. This is obtained by placing the
switch with the chosen values in the ON position (e.g. pos. 1 an 2 switch ON
corresponds to a full scale of 640 seconds).
2) TYPE OF FUNCTION AND SENSOR
For this function it is necessary to simultaneously programme the dip switch-
es of position 10 - 11 - 12. Following table B it is possible to programme the
instrument with an on delay (TE) or off delay (TD) depending on the sensor
NAMUR, NPN or PNP.
Furthermore it is possible to programme these functions with relay on load
(ON) and off load (OFF).
