Fritz Ivan D. Batisanan chose to symbolize himself as a candle to represent times when he has been able to serve as a light to others. Specifically, he helped encourage a depressed friend to continue his education by talking to him sincerely and convincing him not to quit school. As a result of his efforts, his friend continued his studies. He also learned about himself from a psychological perspective. Specifically, that he is special with his own unique abilities, that his intellectual strengths will bloom with time and practice, and that he does not need to judge others because everyone has different strengths.

1. I choose a candle to represent myself. I can hardly recall some important events in my

life when I learned to be selfless and was able to serve as a light to others. I got a friend who is

staying away from his parents. One day, he approached me and told me that he is going to quit

from school because he is so depressed. Upon knowing that, I came to his house and talked to

him sincerely. I did try my best to convince him not to quit. I was trying to show him how

important education is. He should let the love of his family and take it as an inspiration to

continue studying. Staying away from his family is not a reason to give up.

Because of what I did, he continued going to school. And I considered it as my achievement

in live where I was able to be a light to my friend’s life for him to continue working for his

dreams. That is why I symbolize myself as a candle.

2. Upon learning about the psychological perspective, the three things I learned about

myself are: First, I am special. I am special because I have my own distinct intellectual ability

and my own intelligence that is unique to others. Because of this, I should not compare myself to

others if sometimes I am little bit ahead or behind of them. Second, I know I can always find

some perfect time for my intellectual strength to bloom. With constant practice, my brain will

develop with proper stimulation and practice. I may not be able to perform at my best this time,

but with maturity I will soon be the best version of myself. And third is, I do not have to be

judgmental of others. Each one of us has his own strengths and weaknesses. We are different

from each other because through that, we can complement each other.

This psychological perspective should always be taken into account seriously in order for us

to avoid comparison of self, setting high standards for everyone and putting pressure over each

other. As unique individuals, we have to share what we have for the common goals.
