Tutorial Problem Set 1 Compressible Flow

This document outlines 4 tutorial problems involving compressible flow and thermodynamics. The problems involve deriving the energy equation using Reynolds' transport theorem, relating the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics for a closed system, deriving an expression for entropy change in a reversible process of a calorically perfect gas, and determining the relation between temperature, pressure and density for a reversible adiabatic process of a calorically perfect gas.

Tutorial Problem set 1

Compressible Flow

1. Using Reynolds’ transport theorem, derive the energy equation (1st law of
thermodynamics) applicable to a control volume.
2. Using the 1st and 2nd law of thermodynamics applicable to a closed system,
show that TdS = dH-Vdp. State the assumptions involved.
3. Derive an expression for the change in specific entropy of a calorically
perfect gas undergoing reversible process.
4. If a calorically perfect gas undergoes reversible adiabatic process, what is
the relation between temperature, pressure and density between two
equilibrium states.
