Following procedures and codes are to be used in site during execution of the
project.
Procedure
4.1 A visual inspection shall be carried out by the customer as per quality
plan. Any fabrication defect observed should be brought to notice of
client
4.2 All steel structure shall be stored above ground on suitable packing to
avoid direct contact to soil
4.3 It shall be stored in the order as required for erection, with erection
marks visible.
4.4 No dragging of steel shall be permitted

4.5 Storage area should be prepared and maintained for temporary storage
4.6 Scratched or abraded steel structure should be given primer coat for
protection
5.1 NSCL shall take over civil foundation with client acceptance prior to
erection o any steel structure.
5.2 NSCL shall place structure/ equipment on foundation with, minimum
allowable variation above or below of which shall be rectified by civil]
5.3 A certain amount of cleaning of foundation and preparing the area is
considered normal and shall be carried out.
5.4 Proper shimming to be used for levelling of column in structures bases
to the required elevation
5.5 Where beams bear in pockets or on wall, bearing plated shall be set
and levelled.
7.4 All steel columns/hopper sections and beams shall be checked for
plumb and level individually before and after connections are made.
7.5 Temporary bracing shall be introduced as per approved Erection
scheme, wherever necessary to take care of all loads to which the
structure may be subjected, including erection equipments and
operation. Therefore such bracing shall be left in place as long as may
be required or the safely and stability. In these cases, AMPTPL
approved should be obtained and to be updated in as-built drawings.

8.0 Inspection.
9.1 Base metal shall be used as per approved drawings and shall be free
from rust, oil, grease, earth and other foreign matter which affect the
quality of welding
9.2 E 6013 shall be used upto 16mm base metal thickness and for above
16mm thickness E 7018 shall be used.
9.3 Welding shall be carried out as per AWS D1.1 approved welding
procedure specification (WPS) and approved drawing.
9.4 All welding consumables shall be used as per client approved list Ref
Code: ASME Sec II Part C and applicable code.
9.5 All welding procedure qualification shall be carried out in accordance
with relevant requirement of ASME Sec IX latest edition or other
applicable codes and project requirement.
9.6 Welders shall be qualified in accordance with the ASME Sec IX or
other applicable codes.
9.7 All welding consumables shall be purchased in sealed pack & stored
properly to prevent deterioration. All welding consumables shall be
handled with care to avoid any damage of flux covering.
9.8 All low hydrogen type electrode shall be baked as per recommendation
of the electrode manufacturer’s/project specification.
9.9 The welding electrodes used shall be free fro rust, oil, grease, earth
and other foreign matter which affect the quality of welding
9.10 Welding of various materials shall be carried out as per approved
welding procedure specification (WPS)
9.11 On the completion of each run, craters, welding irregularities, slag etc
shall be removed by grinding and chiselling.
9.12 The parts being welded and the welding personnel should be
adequately protected from rain and strong winds. In the absence of
such a protection no welding shall be carried out.

9.13 All weld joints shall be free from adherent weld spatters, slag, sward,
dirt or foreign matter. This can be achieved by chipping or brushing.
9.14 Back chipping shall be mandatory for all butt welds(for Hopper works )
9.15 Ultrasonic test shall be carried out wherever weld thickness is 8mm &
above ( Ultrasonic test shabby be on AMPTPL scope) (for Hopper
works)
9.16 Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT) shall be carried out for root run & MPI
test to be done after completion of painting, before lifting wherever weld
thickness less than 8mm(for Hopper works ) (
9.17 Inspection of all welds shall be carried out as per applicable code and
specifications. The entire finished weld shall be visually inspected for
parallel and axial alignment of work, excessive reinforcement, and
concavity of welds, shrinkage cracks, inadequate penetration, and
unrepaired burn through, under cuts, surface porosity and other surface
defects.
9.18 Defect ascertained, through the inspection methods, which are beyond
acceptable limits shall be removed by the process of chipping &
grinding.
