Issue:
The manager is a senior engineer for quality management at the production branch of Larsen &
Tubro. He needs to go for site visits on the regular basis for quality check. He is working for
Electrical Panel System. So, one day he went for one site visit to test the product and vendor
inspection. When he checked the product for purchasing, it was not appropriate and was not
meeting the standards of the company. The manager told the supplier that the material which he
wanted was not according to the quality being asked. There was a failure in the supply and the
vendor was not agreeing that the material was not up to the mark. He was stuck to his point that
his company supplies to many other production units but they never had such issues with the
material. The initial discussion got transformed into conflict as no one was ready to agree on
single point.
Resolution:
The issue needed to be solved as soon as possible to avoid the late production. So, the matter
went to the Purchase Department head. All three people the department head, the manager and
the vendor met at the site to inspect the material again. They rechecked the terms and conditions
given in the standard quality. Other technical specifications were also inspected. Then the minor
defect was detected, which needed to be resolved. So, the vendor was asked to repair the
material and then sell it by the purchasing head. Sometimes, issues need to be solved by the
higher authority. This issue was also solved by the authorized person with power.

Issue:
It was a month end of June and there was a lot of work at the production plant. The manager had
his friends coming all the way from Gujarat. So, he wanted to go out for some days. He had
made plan of 4 days off, but two working days were coming in between. The company gives
weekend offs, but the manager wanted to have Monday as well as Tuesday offs as his friends
were coming. So, he asked his department head for the permission. But, he denied for it as the
month end usually be very hectic and the company covers all the target left unachieved. The
manager requested the head but even after having good record, he couldn’t get the day off. As
the head was senior to him, there was no any verbal conflict.
Resolution:
The manager wanted the day off, so he met the head of the department and ask him to let him
finish the work a day prior. As the Sunday was being a off, the manager asked the head to let
him work on the holiday to compensate the work to be done on Monday. Initially the head was
not agreeing as the production unit didn’t use to work on weekends. But on repeated requests, he
allowed him to work from home as being a senior engineer he only had to supervise the work
and check all the purchased material, quality and invoices. Thus, the manager resolved the
conflict compromising his Sunday.
