    "Tarpo"
    by Genraro R. Gojo Cruz

    Salamat sa matatalinong politiko, nagkaroon


    ng bagong bihis itong aming abang bárong-bárong.
    Nagsabit sa poste ng koryente ang makukulay
    na tarpuling sinungkit namin ilang madaling-araw.
    Buti na lang, kinasihan kami ng mahabaging langit,
    di kami nahuli nang aming putulin ang alambre.
    Madali naming naibaba ang makikinang na pangalan,
    maging ang kanilang mga pangako, ngiti at dangal.
    Ang kanilang katawan ay ginawa naming dingding
    upang maging panangga sa matinding lamig o hangin.
    Pantabing ng bintana ang kanilang mga mata
    nang di kami mabasa sa ampiyás kung tag-ulan.
    Sakto sa pinto ang kanilang mga kamay at braso
    nang di na kami malooban sa gabing himbing ang tulog.
    Naging pantapal ng bubong ang kanilang pangalan
    nang mabawasan ang tulo sa aming munting higaan.
    Panapin sa salubsob ng tulugan ang mga pangako
    upang mailapat ang aming mga pagod na likod.
    Sa aming hapag ang asam nilang kapangyarihan
    nang walang isa mang butil ng kanin ang masayang.
    Salamat sa matatalinong politiko, nagkaroon
    ng bagong bihis itong aming abang bárong-bárong.
    Sa buo naming katawan at bahay, tagos ang kapanatagan
    na tumagal sana hanggang sa susunod na halalan.

    Poetry Analysis

    The literary piece “Tarpo” is written by genraro R. Goro Cruz tarpo is also means “Trapo” in the
    Philippines is now a dirty connotation of everything undesirable ascribed to other politician.
    Lying, cheating and stealing are usual tools of politicians to win and stay in power. we tend to
    have no choice but to vote the lesser evil as all bets seem to have the same character traits. The
    Author Strives to deliver the message that it's important to vote wisely and educating
    ourselves. Let’s take time to know the candidates, their backgrounds, and platforms. If they
    have held a government position in the past, take time to research and ask the people they had
    served, we should be careful about who are we are electing in the position. But there are still
    people who would still vote for “Trapo” . The speaker in the poem is the of the resident in the
    community, the narrator in the poem is the first person. Some words are hard to understand
    because of vocabulary words.
    I paraphrase some lines in the poem,
    Buti na lang, kinasihan kami ng mahabaging langit, di kami nahuli nang aming putulin ang
    alambre. = Buti na lang, ginabayan kami ng mabait na diyos, di kami nahuli nang aming putulin
    ang alambre.
    Pantabing ng bintana ang kanilang mga mata nang di kami mabasa sa ampiyás kung tag-ulan.=
    Pantabing ng bintana ang kanilang mga mata nang di kami mabasa sa anggí kung tag ulan.
    The Tone in the poem is regretful for their chosen a wrong politician. The Mood of the poem is
    realistic because it happens in real life. The Figurative Language I seen in the poem is
    symbolism, allusion, metaphor, repetition. The Enjambment is normally to let an idea carry on
    beyond the restrictions of a single line. Another purpose of enjambment is to continue a
    rhythm that is stronger than a permanent end-stop.
    “Trapo" that after being elected to position, no change will take place. same old corruption
    stories, same old injustices, same old same old same old... that's how i understand what a trapo
    is. so, it's important for us to look at the history of these candidates to see if he was able to
    instigate change, starting with his life.
