Creating a Patchwork Grid in Photoshop 5/5.

Patchwork Grid
Welcome to the Patchwork Grid tutorial . This tutorial was designed to teach you another easy method
for creating grids with the Patchwork filter in Photoshop. If you need help with it, or find it confusing,
don't hesitate to e-mail me, the information is at the bottom of the page.

1 The first thing you'll need to do for this tutorial is save

the image to the left to hard disk, or grab a picture or
image of your own. You can dot his by clicking on the
image and a larger one will appear, then right -click on
it and save it to disk.

What we're going to do here is create a grid using a

very different method, if you've taken my other grid
tutorial, you might find this one a bit easier. We will
accomplish this by using the Patchwork filter. Here we
go:

In the Layers Palette create a new layer by click on the

Create New Layer button.

Once the new layer has been created,

choose white as the Background Color, and
use the following settings for the
Foreground Color:

Red: 31
Green: 151
Blue: 195

2 From the main menu, choose Filter>Render>Clouds ,

you can vary them a bit more by repeating the filter (
Ctrl + F )

Don't worry if yours doesn't look exactly like mine, it's

not supposed to, clouds appear different every time
they are rendered.

3 With the Clouds layer selected add the Patchwork

filter by choosing Filter>Texture>Patchwork , set
the Square Size to 1 and the Relief to 0.

4 Now change the blending mode of the layer to

whatever you want, I would recommend either
Multiply or Soft Light this gives a nice effect.

The great part about using this method for making grid
is getting a nice effect using the blending modes, you
could completely brighten it up using Color Dodge ,
add a lot of contrast using Color Burn or invert the
colors completely using Exclusion , amazing isn't it?
