Course Content
• Introduction to reservoir engineering II

• Drive mechanisms types and performance

• General material balance equation

• Gas reservoir
– Initial gas in-place calculation (IGIP) using volumetric and material balance methods under volumetric and water drive
mechanisms
– For gas condensate reservoirs – the recombination calculation, calculation of specific gravity of well fluid to find the IGIP
and IOIP.
• Oil reservoirs
– For under-saturated oil reservoirs – calculations of initial oil in place (IOIP) and reservoir performance estimation by
volumetric calculation and material balance equation
– For saturated reservoirs the reserve estimation and reservoir performance calculations using material balance equation.
– The effect of oil compressibility in MBE
• Steady state water influx calculations

Teaching and Self Study Plan

• Three hours of lectures each week, supported by PowerPoint presentations.


• Self study of 3 hours per week is required.
• Contact hours with lecturer will be upon appointment

• Quizzes (10 minutes) weight (10%) during weeks (4 and 12).


• Assignments weight (10%)
• Report weight (10%) during week (8).
• Midterm exam (3 hours) weight (70%) during week (15)
