SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECT

Introduction

The proposed project aims to help the locals in the

area to provide funds for ecological conservation, to

directly benefit the economic development and political

empowerment of the local community. The project intends to

offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on

the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our

natural habitats. In addition, an integral part of hammock

glamping is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency,

water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities

for local communities.

Outdoor activities like camping refreshes our minds and

help individuals to appreciate its beauty and wonder. In

turn, people would care more about protecting it.

Local Community

The campsite is equipped with clean and eco-friendly

bathrooms and a breath taking view to which the locals and

the tourists would take advantage of the panoramic views of

the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary at Guisad

Central, Baguio City. It is the proponents’ intention to

provide an inspiring and healthy natural environment for

guests to stay in to promote wellbeing. The proponents

encourage guests to interact with the natural surroundings

by walking around the parameters of the seminary.

Through the business’ payment of taxes to the

government, the community is developed and government

projects that aim to develop the community will be

sustained. Moreover, the establishment of the business is in

fact another opportunity for jobs, therefore helping in a

way to decrease the rate of unemployment in our country.

Environment

In Kaw-itan, the proponents aims to minimise waste by

practising and encouraging the ‘eliminate, reduce, reuse,

recycle’ approach. Most of the compostable waste (ash, food

waste) is composted through our local authority while some

wood-only ash is spread around the bases of trees at the

site to provide nutrients. Recycling bins are included in

the site for glass, paper, card, magazines, newspapers,

plastic containers, food tins, drinks cans and foil.  The

white and black bin bags used at Kaw-itan are biodegradable.

Government

The company will benefit the government with regards to

tax matters. This means that more funds would be generated

by the government. Additional funds may help the government

on assisting its ongoing projects or for creating new ones

through which the people’s welfare will be given more

emphasis.

Kaw-itan is fully in line with the general policies of

the local and national government regarding the protection

of the environment through effective collaboration and

partnerships to the relevant government agencies and private

sector organizations. Our company strongly observes the

promotion of inland eco-tourism in order to diversify

tourist services and encourage restoration of natural

forests and biodiversity through effective participation in

government sectors concerned.

Kaw-itan will contribute to the expanding employment

market opportunity by recruiting people among the locals.

Further, indirect employment will also be created through

the catering and taxi industries with people who wish to

experience the hammock camping and spend longer in

Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary (PBTS).
