DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT

The equipment is composed of a 10.000 l tank, a structure for supporting the tank and for fixing it onto the
vehicle chassis and of a pumping unit, necessary for the pumping of water, driven by a hydraulic unit which
receives motion from the vehicle power take off.
Pumping Unit

The pumping unit is composed of:

n.1 centrifugal pump “AP1” driven by hydraulic engine “OM1”

n.1 water filter “AF1” mounted on the suction pipe of the pump
n.1 manual water pump “AP2” for priming the centrifugal pump “AP1”
n.2 front spray bar
n.1 set of manual valves “AV1, 2, 3,6,7,8,9” that allow the operator to obtain the various functions of the
equipment
n.1 pneumatic gate valve “AV4” for delivery to the front spray bar
n.1 hydraulic, T operating, ball valve “AV6” that makes possible to choose one of the two front bar operating
modes (sprinkling or washing)
n.2 hose reels (one per side of the vehicle)

the equipment also includes :

- n. 2 gate valves “AV10” .
These valves can be used due for drawing water by free falling and to fill the tank (using an external
pumping unit).
- n.1 rear sprinkling bar that operates by free falling (without using the pumping unit).
To operate this service, the system is provided with a pneumatic gate valve “AV11” and a water filter “AF2” .

The functions obtainable from the pumping unit are:

- filling of the tank with water
- water delivery from the feed opening of the pumping unit
- water transfer between two external reservoirs
- water delivery from the front spray bars
- unloading of the tank

The functions obtainable without the pumping unit are:

- water sprinkling from rear spray bar
- water drawing by free falling from the valves AV10 hatch
5
Uso2143-GB-REV01.doc

The adjustable valve “AV8” has the function of letting in again a part of the water pumped by the pump
“AP1” directly in the tank (by-pass function).
During the functioning of the centrifugal pump “AP1” it is then possible to adjust the quantity of water in
delivery to the various uses by the positioning of the valve lever in one of the foreseen regulations

During the functioning of the pump “AP1”, the pressure gauge “AM1” indicates the water pressure in the
delivery pipe of the pump.
If the pressure is too high (indicators“ID6” and “ID9” ON), the pressure gauge will interrupt the pump
functioning.
To continue the work, it is necessary to reduce the engine’s speed to enable the internal pressure to reach
low values. Then turn ON the pump by means of the switch IT4 or IT10 so the pump will function
normally (eventually, during the work, reduce the number of engine revs)

6
Uso2143-GB-REV01.doc
Hydraulic unit

The hydraulic unit is composed of two independent circuits operated by the hydraulic pumps “OP1” and “OP2”,
connected to the vehicle PTO.
Both pumps suck oil from the reservoir “OTK” to let it in their own circuits; the oil is then sent again to the tank
“OTK”

- in the first circuit the oil is sucked (after the opening of the valve “OV1”) from the pump “OP1” and sent to
the distributor “DS1”.
When the distributor “DS1”is set on, the oil sets on the engine “OM1” (connected to the centrifugal pump
“AP1” for water pumping ) and turns back to the distributor, it will be cooled by the exchanger “OSC1” in
order to let in the reservoir
In this circuit the following are also included:
- A valve of maximum pressure (by-pass valve), is mounted on the distributor “DS1”; this
valve has the task of deviating the hydraulic oil directly to the reservoir if inside the delivery
pipe the pressure becomes too high (e.g. engine blocked).
The limit of intervention of the valve is set during the testing operations of the
hydraulic unit and must not be increased.

7
Uso2143-GB-REV01.doc
- A re-circulation valve “OV2” mounted between the oil entry of the hydraulic engine and
the distributor. When the oil delivery stops (e.g. disengagement of the power take off) due to
the inertia of the moving parts (impeller of water pump, the moving liquid present at that
moment inside the pump, the gears of the pump) the shaft of the pump will rotate a couple of
times.
Inside the oil entry pipe to the engine, a vacuum will be formed which will instantaneously
stop the rotation.
The function of the re-circulation valve is that of allowing the hydraulic oil, which has just
passed through the engine, to be recalled due to the depression in the entry pipe, and thus
allowing the engine and the water pump a more gradual stop which will be less traumatic for
the mechanical components connected.
The gatevalve “OV1” has the function of interrupting the flow of hydraulic oil in the circuit in case of
maintenance to the hydraulic unit or the replacement of worn out or deteriorated hoses.

- In the second circuit the oil is sucked (after the opening of the valve “OV4”) from the reservoir “OTK1” and
sent to the deviating valve “OV3”. Through the pump “OP2”
This valve regulates the oil flow to the cylinder “OCL1” for the control of the variation of the front washing
bar inclination.

MINIMUM LEVEL

THE PLANT IS COMPLETE WITH AN ALARMING SYSTEM IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE WATER EXHAUSTION
IN THE TANK
during water delivey, sprinkling and washing, the pump is on and the switch luminous indicators IT4 and IT10 are off (they
are on only during the starting operations of the pump)
if during work the level of water inside the tank decrease under 20% (1400 l approx.
remaining) the indicators ID4 and ID12 and the acoustic alarms CIC1 will be turned on
in order to signal the necessity of filling the tank.
IF THE WATER DELIVERY CONTINUES AND THE WATER LEVEL REACHES
6% (250 L APPROX. REMAINING) THE CONTROL IT9 WILL BE TURNED ON
AND THE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP WILL BE BLOCKED IN ORDER TO AVOID THE
COMPLITETE EXHAUSTION OF WATER INSIDE THE TANK.
THIS SIGNAL INDICATES THAT THE TANK SHOULD BE
NECESSARILY FILLED
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS MENTIONED IN THE PARAGRAPH
(TANK LOADING)

AFTER THE AUTOMATIC STOP OF THE PUMP AND ITS SUCCESSIVE RELEASE, THE EQUIPMENTS DOESN’T
FORSEE ANY ULTERIOR SECURITY MEASURE AGAINST THE WATER EXHAUSTION, WHICH MEANS THAT IF
YOU SET ON AGAIN THE PUMP AND CONTINUE THE WATER DELIVERY, THE SPRINKLING OR THE
WASHING , YOU MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGES TO THE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP.

TO RELEASE THE PUMP FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE PARAGRAPH “CENTRIFUGAL PUMP
BLOCKED AND THE RELEASE OF THE PUMP”.

10
Uso2143-GB-REV01.doc

THE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP SHOULD NEVER WORK WITHOUT WATER

Remember that when the pump is primed the time of working with a delivery equal to zero (the delivery
valve is closed) is 2/3 minutes max.

DURING THE TANK LOADING AFTER THE AUTOMATIC STOP OF THE PUMP (DUE TO THE REACHING OF THE
MINIMUM LEVEL IN THE TANK) THE LAMP OF THE CONTROL IT9 (RESET UNIT) WILL REMAIN ON TILL THE WATER
LEVEL RACHES 12% (EQUIVLENT TO APPROX. 680 L OF WATER INSIDE THE TANK)

MAXIMUM LEVEL

the maximum water level inside the tank is signalled by the lamps ID5 and ID13 AND it corresponds to 96% of
the water height inside the tank (displayed values: ID7 = 96 ; ID11 = 1.9) when the maximum level is
reached ( ID7=100 ; ID11 =2), the pump will not be blocked but it is the operator who should interrupt the
loading
when the water level reaches 100% the water will pour out from the manhole’s breathing valve.

CENTRIFUGAL PUMP BLOCKED AND THE RELEASE OF THE PUMP

The pump is blocked when:

- the equipment is without water (see the paraghraph “ WATER LEVEL IN THE TANK MANAGING) .
in this case, in order to release the pump and continue the work it is necessary to press IT9 and to
bring IT4 or IT10 in “ON” position

- when the machine is stopped through the control STOP – EMERGENCY IT11 or IT12.
In this case, in order to release the pump and continue the work it is necessary to press IT1 and to
bring IT4 or IT10 in “ON” position

ATTENTION:
THE EQUIPMENT CAN PUMP ONLY WATER
ANY OTHER USE OF THE EQUIPMENT IS CONSIDERED AN IMPROPER USE

11
Uso2143-GB-REV01.doc

STARTING THE EQUIPMENT

OIL AND AIR SENSORS ON THE VEHICLE

The vehicle has two sensors for the sensing of engine oil pressure (VOS1) and air pressure (VAS1) in the
hydraulic and pneumatic unit of the vehicle. These sensors are complete with signalling light and acoustic alarm
in the driver’s cab (VAID1 for air pressure and VOID1 for oil pressure).
The signalling of errors is set on:
- When there isn’t enough pressure in the pneumatic unit of the vehicle ( minimum pressure = 7 bar –
INTERMITTENT ALARM )
- When there isn’t enough oil pressure in the engine of the vehicle (minimum pressure = 0.5 bar –
CONTINUOUS ALARM)

When the vehicle is started for the first time, the signalling light and the acoustic alarm will be in function and it
will be necessary to wait that the air reservoir and that the oil in the vehicle engine reaches the working pressure.

If the signalling do not stop in few minutes it means that there is an anomaly or a malfunction of the vehicle.
If the signalling is relative to the air pressure (VAID1 flashing and intermittent alarm in function) it is necessary
to check the pneumatic unit and the air compressor of the vehicle

If the signalling is relative to the engine oil pressure (VOID1 flashing and continuous alarm in function) it is
necessary to control the oil of the vehicle’s engine.

N.B. In case of disassembly and remounting of spring (“ 7, 8, 9”) connections, pay attention to the
tighting of the nuts :
These nuts must be tightened to obtain a spring compression of about 1 – 2 mm to preserve the
flexibility of these connections.
