related to the origin and evolution of the universe.

a) the big bang theory explains the origin of universe;
b) stars, star systems, and galaxies change over long
periods of time;

c) characteristics of the sun, planets and their moons,


comets, meteors, asteroids,
and dwarf planets are determined by materials found
in each body; and
d) evidence from space exploration has increased our
understanding of the
structure and nature of our universe.

Pedagogy Planning
Activity 1. Website:

2. Discuss to activate Prior Knowledge “Quiz
Question 8” from above website: If the earth
was the size of a marble, how many miles of
space would you need to build a model of the
solar system to scale?
3. Show the video under #8 from above website
about The Solar System to Scale
4. Direct Instruction from Power Point about the
planets and their characteristics.
5. Open discussion about what characteristics
students thought were interesting about
planets.
6. Show them example Fakebook account
“Earthy McEarth.” [Show them how certain
dates were used that corresponded to actual
dates of the information, jokes were used that
were appropriate but factual, pictures, videos
and memes are OK as long as they are
appropriate).
7. Break students into 7 groups (8 planets minus
Earth) and give each group one planet (not
Earth).
8. Have them start brainstorming! Utilizing the
internet (have them fact check as they go),
textbook and power point to start researching
characteristics about their designated planet.
They can also start saving pictures they want
to use for their posts and start discussing
posts they want to do.
9. Homework! Have each student find one fact
that the group hadn’t found yet and bring to
the next class.
10. Next class! Design their FAKEBOOK profile for
their planet. Be as creative as they want!
11. Allow discussion with the other groups if they
want to “talk” to each other and coordinate
on their Fakebook profiles.
12. If all groups finish: each group (starting closest
to the sun) can present their profile to the
class. This can be continued next class if time
doesn’t allow everyone to finish presenting.
