I knew I wanted a wooden

might have been more
prevalent in the 50s. And I
wanted a tile counter like the
counters I grew up with. I still
remember how I had to clean
the grout with a toothbrush!
I wasn’t sure what I was going

thing together. Originally I

had wanted both a door and
a window in the room box,
but in the end there wasn’t
room for the door. It took
me awhile to figure out how
to pull together the different
kitchen cabinets, but finally I
ended up making some from
kits, bashing others and paint-
ing them all the same color
with matching knobs.
The kitchen cabinets are
white with green knobs. The
Brodnax wallpaper is a soft
green flowered print with
touches of blue, white and
brown. I added a Brodnax
wallpaper border that had
similar colors; a brown back-
ground and green leaves on a
vine with blue grapes.
The ‘tile’ counter is off-
white with a matching tile
backsplash that is bordered
with green tile. Of course
the room box is electrified,
especially since both the
stove and the refrigerator are
lighted. The overhead light is
a Lighting Bug fixture and the
light by the sink is one that
my husband made.
When the kitchen was
done, I had fun filling the pan-
try, refrigerator and cabinets.
Many of the cabinets have
‘glass’ doors so you can see
cookbooks, teapots, dishes and
bowls inside. The pantry also

me to print an image from my
computer, scale it to a mini size,
and sew with it!
I promptly set about
producing about a dozen
miniature quilts: mixing and

generally having a great time.
But there was a problem –
what do I do with all of these
quilts? As with so many other
mini experiments, they found
their way to a box on my
