Wellness
Mrs. Daly
In the 7-day sleep diary, I used my Fitbit watch to monitor my sleep state to make sure
the data’s accurate. The first three days are as usual, and the rest of 4 days are during the
Thanksgiving break. Thus, it is a good chance to observe and find out the influence of the thing
we did before going to bed and how important a regular sleep on people’s daily moods.
Before the Thanksgiving break, from Nov 23rd—Nov 26th, I went to bed before 12:00
PM and got up between 7:30—9:30 (depend on the class schedule), which is pretty regular and
easy to fall asleep. And the frequency of waking during the night is not frequent. My device
reveals that I woke up about 60—70 mins in every sleep, but it is hard to count by yourself.
Thus, the data’s reliability is doubtful, I decide to leave this part of data away. On the other hand,
I found that the state of waking up is more reliable to evaluate people’s sleep quality. Based on
my sleep diary, the sleep quality of the first 3 days is obviously better than the rest of 4 days.
Because during the thanksgiving break, the average time to bed and rise all moved latter. And I
usually did social media or chat with my friends before bed. It made it harder to fall asleep. My
biological clock was interrupted by the action. Also, the sleep quality is worse. Because I felt
fatigued when I wake up; even the sleep time is the same as usual, but the by-effect of stay up
late is still worked. It means my sleeping is low-quality during those days. And my deep sleep is
not enough to recover the body, so I felt fatigued; it further impacted my daily mood. The more
time to do deep sleep, the more I refreshed. Through this sleep diary, I learn from the mistake
that is: Do not break your biological clock, just keep your sleep time regular. It can help you
2. Describe wellness regarding sleep, rest, and recovery as a College Student. You will
need to use scripture as a primary reference in answering this question- at least 3 passages
As a College student, our responsibility is going to learn everything, not only for
knowledge but also to keep health. As a result, learning how to sleep is very basic and important
as a student to maintain wellness. It can help us to recover our energy to take on the next day.
As you know, the dream is a part of sleep, it happened in the REM stage. Job 33:15: “In a
dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds.” It
shows that people can dream and get recovery during the REM stage.
Proverbs 20:13 said: “Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will
have food to spare.” It does not mean that sleep is bad, actually, it emphasizes the balance of
sleep and work. Sleep is a way to prepare for working better. Too much or too little sleep can
both harmful. As a result, we should find a balance between sleep and work to achieve wellness.
Psalm 4:8: “In peace, I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in
safety.” God is the one who gives us peace inside of our heart, there is no one like Him. Thus, we
can glorify God when we are sleeping, because He gives peace to help us rest. Nowadays, the
true peace of heart is a luxury. Because we cannot get it through every material thing, but
