MENTAL WELL-BEING 2
The origins of the phrase “money cannot buy happiness” are not clearly known. However, for
those who do not have tons of money may mock the phrase, and they could be accurate. In a
report named the “Origins of Happiness,” alleviating mental health problems like anxiety and
depression have the potential of increasing happiness by 20%. On the other hand, alleviation of

at making one happy as opposed to alleviation of poverty. Interestingly, for one to reduce mental
health issues, one does not have to spend much. Therefore, the issue of mental well-being is
interesting because mental illness is just as real as physical illness. It is experienced in the same
brain areas as the physical pain and has the potential of disabling an individual. Nonetheless, the
two types of illnesses are not treated in the same way. Whereas almost everyone who ails
physically get treatment, two out of three of the mentally ill do not. For example, if a person’s
bone breaks, they are automatically treated. However, if one’s spirit is broken, they may likely
The proposed research hypothesis is “If an individual is happy, then their mental well-being is
stable.” A hypothesis generally shows the relationship between two variables; dependent and the
independent variable i.e. any change in one of the variable causes a simultaneous change in the
other. Mental well-being generally affect how we think and interact with our surroundings and is
therefore influenced by various factors including our social interactions. Having a stable mental
well-being is more than just the absence of illness rather it is a state of general and all round
wellbeing. It involves understanding ones thoughts and how they influence their interaction with

the society. When one is mentally disturbed this leads to stress and therefore affects their social
interactions. This elements of mental wellbeing are of great interest since they revolve around
the normal human existence. The above hypothesis clearly outlines the relationship between
mental well beings and happiness which is the basis peaceful coexistence within our societies.
Mental wellbeing is important to all members of the society from family members, communities
and workmates. An individual’s state of mental well-being highly influences that of their
surroundings. For instance, if an individual engages with their partners in a jovial mood, they are
most likely able to deliver similar services in a happy mood creating a friendly environment that
will lead quality provision of services which will benefit all parties involved. There are various
methods of attaining mental wellbeing beginning with self-realization which involves knowing
and appreciating an individual and this will lead to increased self-esteem causing happy
Kayleigh among other writers reported in their scientific research that one in three young people
in England are struggling from the dramatic changes in health trends (pp 38). WHO reports that
50% of all mental health illness start in the childhood years and escalate to 75% among the
project involving several countries to collect information on the health and mental wellbeing of
the youth. The results from the study which involved filling questionnaires showed that many of
the young people suffer from poor mental health which was influenced by their social
environment such as family relations, school experiences and the general neighborhood. Finally,
the hypothesis is important because mental well-being result to extraordinary savings. For
instance, there will be fewer individuals on welfare benefits and few people being treated to

physical ailments made worse by mental sickness. So, on any reasonable estimations, the
treatments will pay for themselves. This will not cost the society anything and yet they are
offered to less than a third of those in need (Layard & Clark, 2015). Therefore, it is important
